Topic: organise mp3s on hard drive

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

hey djs... i have right now just around 4000 mp3s on my hdd...they are all sorted out in various folders (cos i was lazy to organise them).
but now that i use vdj (or i just started to use and will be buying it soon), i wanna organise them in a nice way...please help me by suggesting how should i organise them...folder wise... or maybe all in a single folder??? or arrange them in folders of artists, albums.. im confused...how do u guys do it?

folders like
70's
80's
90's
smooth songs
dance
trance
rnb and funky
background music
latino house
funky house
pop
rock and metal
oriental = (something like arash boro boro, tarkan, mustafa sandal)
latino
raggae like

if you play one style or many styles for the one night you always have to play 4-5 songs for one particular style so it is better to have similar songs together.

Don't worry to play some older things together with hot new. Many people like it..
so some files from 90's are mixed together in current folders of styles

And the others ???

hmmm I cannot recognize the styles and say it is this and it is that,
but you have those club songs that have the bass rhytm sound like
latino songs ....

so I had many songs and put together ones that sounds similar together in order to have smaller
amount of files in each group

for latino house it is:
afro medusa - pasilda
bob sinclair - kiss my eyes
2 elements - brazilian nights
lauerent wolf - saxo

for the funky house it is:

bob marley remixes
barry white - let the music play (funkstar deluxe mix)
phats and small
spiller groove jet
moloko sing it back

dance are the songs for me that are not pop, trance, and club/house ones

like o-zone dragostea din tei
alcazar - physical
in grid - in tango
madonna - like a prayer (jonathan petes mix)

I have changed my methods over the years.
I started out with all kinds of groups and catagories by genre etc...one big cluster ****.

Now I build my groups and save them as playlists.
I have groups built for audio and video and break it down to best party, dinner, cocktail, dance, line dances, best country, kids, etc....

Search and load, search and load, search and load.
You can do the same thing by saving and retagging your playlists accordingly based on sets or types of gatherings etc...

It's all how you use it and get acustomed to using your system, call it evolution if you will.

You're right each one its method.
Here we can share our experiences and sometimes we change after seen another method which seems better.
