Might sound like a silly question, but how do you actually start these?

If you mean the plugins, after configuring it in the options mode, play a video. This activates the video window. Then play a mp3. Since the video module is already active, it switches over to using the plugins to fill the screen.

or define a new shortcut ( o - key) for example and assign an open_video fucntion to it
:-)

you don't have to play video
