Topic: Can you uninstall Internet Explorer ?

i have vista home prem 64 bit

i use firefox

i hate how despite the fact that ff is the default , all these applications and websites launch ie ........

If you set Firefox to be your default browser, programs and sites will open firefox instead
 
There are some Applications programmed to use the API of the IE for connections to the internet. So i think you got more problems than you win when you really completely uninstall IE.

Internet Exploder is so deeply hardwired to Windows, so it's more or less impossible to remove it completely. Some essential functions like Windows Update only work with IE.

Just one of many reasons not to use Windows ;)

If you are running Windows XP you can completely remove IE from the system by using XPlite:

I have used this software on Windows 98 through XP and have customized the system the way I want it to be. I am using it now on my XP machine with VDJ to completely remove everything that is not needed, including IE, to keep it a lean machine for VDJ. I am running a Windows 98 laptop with a Windows folder of around 30 Mb using XPlite, for another purpose.

I don't see any mention though of them doing anything for Vista or 7.

I recall testing XPLite years ago. I'm under the impression that while it removes all the conventional means to start IE, it doesn't completely remove it, since IE shares some codebase and framework with Windows Explorer (i.e the default file manager).
 
Hey,

XPlite removes most traces of Internet Explorer from the system other than, as you say, common or shared code. It does a great job and I have found it most useful.
