Topic: Laptop to usb mixer; can't get headphones working.

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I use to connect my laptop to a small ext. USB sound card, then into the mixing board. This way I could set the sound config to output: headphones and the soundcard: to two cards. This worked good, and always heard the headphones when previewing songs on the deck and in the browser lists.

Now the problem: Using VDJ 6.05 qnd the default skin (VDJ6 pro) and now having a usb mixer. My laptop is connected to the mixer via its usb port.
The settings are : as before (output headphones and Soundcard to "two cards". The main sound out the front speakers seem okay, but there is nothing coming out of the headphones? What am I missing her or doing wrong? I have the "first driver" (which is usb driver) set to master and the second one (which is primary driver) set to headphones.

aww c'mon, someone must be using headphones and a USB sound card (or even a USB mixer), unless we all have the same problem and no one can get it going. I'm sure i am just missing something simple.

Any help please??

Read the manual it explains how to do a setup for headphones, just go carefully one step at a time you'll get it.

Good Luck

Joey...

Which usb mixer do you have?

Sounds to me like in "sound setup" you just need to select "2 line mixer" and then select the mixer's inbuilt soundcard from the dropdown list.

If you don't see that then it might be that the drivers haven't installed properly or something but we can easily sort that hopefully.

I've read the manual many times , have set up headphones too. Just didn't seem to work with this USB mixer, that I would consider as a ext. sound card.

Thanx, Andytaylor, I'll try that. Didn't even see those choices in the menu. As I thought, something simple i must have overlooked.

no worries, let us know how you get on.

Sheesh, real weird now! I DID NOT find a "two-line" setup or a usb mixer sound card in the dropdown menu.

Oh, I have that nNEW Mackie USB mixer.

Oh, I did use " for outputheadphones" and "Two cards" for soundcard. (VDJ6.05 on default vdj6 skin). Set the first card for "usb audio codec" and the second card "primary driver". And master: first card/headphones: second card.

Maybe it was the "primary driver" that should have been set at the brand name "sigma tel audio" instead?

Otherwise, why wouldn't this setup work for the headphones?

Is this the mixer?

http://www.mackie.com/products/profx8/

If so, then it's only got one stereo output in the usb.

So basically that's not very helpful for DJ-ing! What you could do is have the mackie usb for one output and your computer's built in soundcard for the other output.

Oh yeah, and sorry, I just looked "2 line mixer" in the vdj sound setup is now just called "external mixer" That's the one you need if you want to use the mixer to mix instead of the on-screen controls.

That was what I was explaining I did but it did not work with the headphones coming out of the computer's sound card.

The mixer is mixing fine, i am just NOT getting sound from the headphones out of the computer sound card.

I use a USB sound card and what you may need to do is go to the properties for your sound card and change it from stereo to Quadrophonic or 5.1 audio. This allowed me to use the rear output of my card for my headphones.
Goodluck
