Topic: Why take so much time........

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

What is the essence of taking so much number of days and months scanning my who music for bpm, key, etc. when Vdj takes so much time loading tracks that're already scanned. I don't get it. Time taken to load first time played track and already scanned track is the same. I suggest that the development team use the technology used in M-Audio's Torq such that once the track is scanned, it loads instantly when loaded onto the decks next time. In the current state, it puts too much pressure on the processor. I hope someone is listening?

I can load a VIDEO (not scanned) in about 1.5 seconds. How fast do YOU think a song should load? If it takes MONTHS to scan your music I suggest you take a look at your processor, sounds like it needs a FACE LIFT.

We really don't need three threads on the subject, Ive locked the other two.

The idea behind scanning is so that information such as key and bpm are in the database prior to loading, allowing you to search and order on them.

VDJ loads tracks near instantly for me as well; even large video files load extremely quickly.

Last night on more than one occasion I changed my mind on the next track to be played with less than 10 seconds to go. Once I even changed the track at less than 5 seconds to go and didn't miss the cue. Now THAT's speed and confidence in the program!!!

Posting your computer specs can help, this is mine;

HP G70-213EM, Intel Core 2 Duo processor P7450 (2.13Ghz), 3 gigs DDR2 SDRAM, 320 Gb HD, nVidia GeForce 9200M GE with 256Mb DDR2 onboard, Windows Vista SP1 (32 bit), Seagate FreeAgent 500Gb USB external HD, Hercules RMX, KWorld PCtoTV Converter, Akasa Cooling Plate, Stanton Uberstand. 3,200 vids on internal drive, 20,000 mp3s on external. Play predominately videos and only the occasional mp3.

Even though the waveform on my MacBook takes about 2 seconds to load, I can still start playing it before the load is done without any problems, and that includes jumping to a cue point that is at a part of the track that hasn't finished loading yet. I don't see what the problem is.

Takes longer to load a CD in a CDJ-1000

I think that sometimes people forget that the song STILL can be played while its loading..................just my 2 cents.
Have a great day!!

here goes....

vdj has to be tweaked a little by the user to get most out of it. you can either do it yourself or ask for help depending on the specs of your pc. computers and computer parts are vey cheap, and djing is an expensive hobbie. a toyota cannot perform like a lamboghini. thats y its a toyota and not a lamboghini. u must drop the dough if you want performance. as far as loading goes vdj should be able to do that fine. 3gb these days is looking like the bare minimum to run programs on windows...

non of these dj software is perfect. im a serato user. you'd think serato doesnt have issues since it only uses their own sound card but boy ther's probably more crying on their forum than here.

but back to your loading problem. that would be a problem that mostly involves your loading settings. play around with Max Load, Performance Tab, etc...
some sound cards even affect loading of songs... drivers
what else is running in the background...
eye candy turned on on windows can cause all sorts of problem...
depends on what kinda hard drive u have. hard drives at this point bottleneck computer performance. maybe its time to go solid state.. maybe ur hdd needs defragmentation (by a real defragmentation program not that windows one)..

list goes on and on....

vdj loads songs fast enough...

I wouldnt mind to wait or scan my files for bpm all nigth or for hours IF they were solid scan, But what I dont like from Virtual is that The way it READS the bpms and Sometimes changes the Values The BPM info doesnt stays the same in some files or IT READS Real Weird sometimes.
Sometimes a song reads one value ,and when you load the song Changes the bpm value . I dont like that.

I get that phenomena also with the BPMs dividing in half or multiplying by 2. Once I set 'em I hate it when I find songs in the bottom or top of my BPM list, not where they should be.

Also when loading a song that was never scanned I get a dB level change when it is done loading. Most times the song starts loading and I start playing it... when fully loaded the volume dB level either jumps up or attenuates. I don't know why it is one way than the other. It is annoying each way.

Since I am in this issue mode...I would like a modification that when using beatlock the sync stays where I have it trimmed out Usually when I get the sync right and hit my "B" the song re-syncs itself... and it is not correct. I would appreciate it if the lock stays where I set it. When I get the match right between the 2 players... there should be some phase lock loop algorythm that kicks in and locks the songs to my sync, not where the program thinks it should be. My judgement should be respected. The program thinks it is smarter than me and re-adjustes itself. It is incorrect.

The program crashed on me Friday night. When I clicked the "restore" the program blew and stopped the music. I had my CD backup on in two seconds, because I have been a PC DJ for a while and understand I can crash almost anytime. Again, another annoyance.

Next time I'll go to backup first and then try to restore. I rebooted the program and it behaved ok the rest of the night. I was running 3 hours into the night and was doing nothing unusual when it crashed.

I'm going to get off this laptop and go with a dual motherboard unit so I have 4 players. I never have a problem with my XP desktop playing video and even recording at the same time. Only the laptop messes with me. It's all hardware and drivers.

Thanks for letting me vent. Changes would be appreciated in x.x.8

You should always ensure that a song that you have never played before loads in full before playing it, otherwise the volume may change once loading completes and the correct overall gain value has been determined.

Ideally, you should pre-analyse all your music prior to a gig - A filter folder will assist with this: http://www.virtualdj.com/homepage/jpboggis/blogs/3972/Pre-analysing_your_music_collection.html

That's all fine and dandy, but how much more thoughtful would it be for VDJ to have in it's programming a statement that says;

if playback is happening during first time scanning, that volume will not adjust until next playback.

If VDJ doesn't auto adjust the gain on first scan it can still be too high or too low so that would fix nothing. The key here is to be a Pro DJ and have your $h!t in line before you show up to the gig. And if you have a track popped on ya at a seconds notice you will have to let it scan first. Shouldn't be that big-a-deal.
