I tryed to play a CD which was bably scratched loaded 1st track into player which didn't load (the blue progress bar remained unlit) pressed play nothing happened.
When I tryed to switch directories to mp3 nothing happened tryed to exit prog. ...nothing.
Pressed control alt Delete which ended program, restarted but wouldn't get past the VDJ opening screen. Forced to Hard reboot and extract CD all then OK.
My concern is should this happen at a gig as a result of playing a clients CD.

your cd was probably damaged or your cd-rom was broken.

I had medium quality cdrom in my laptop, i never put in an audio cd where there is full dancefloor and winamp is not in background just for the case.

I think it is problem of windows when you put some cds into drive all stucks.

when this happened to me i was not able to click my-computer ...
bur using shortcut windows key + r and typing C:\music
opened the music directory and you can drag and drop a song to winamp ...
you don't have to reset your pc (in many cases not) ... just wait until it times out
and vdj comes back. (btw. It did not stop to play or skip but i was not able to control it)

Thanks guys for your help, seems I need be careful about using some CDs if badly scratched' my drive is a Cheap DVD Reader/ writer multidrive but normally works fine.
Maybe need to look at backup system more seriously.
Maybe A Second Computer, or DVD Drive and DVDs filled with mp3s
