My last "dance" song of the night is usually something that is more singalong than dance. Some of the ones I use:
Mr. Big - To Be With You
Michael Jackson - Man In The Mirror
Biz Markie - Just a Friend
Milli Vanilli - Blame it on the Rain
Color Me Badd - Sex you up
Leaving the crowd with a singalong has people still singing it after the music is off and they are walking out the door. It's kinda hard to be in a fighting mood when you are singing Blame it on the Rain...LOL!!! I look at our job not so much as just a DJ, but I am more of a crowd manager as well. I dictate with my programming the type of crowd I have.
After the last song, here is my script:
"Thank you all for coming out and supporting The DJ Nutz Experience. Be sure to tip your bartenders and waitstaff as you close out your tabs. Finish up your drinks and make your way to the nearest exit. Walk home, crawl home, drive home safe! (insert plug for the next night at the venue) Good night everybody!"
Then I will play a television theme song at about 60% of show volume. I have quite a few theme songs going all the way back to WKRP in Cincinnati....LOL!!!

Usually I just go out with a bang and play something really hard. Last few times I've dug up "Delta 9 - D9 (Ground Zero 2009)" since it also happens to be one of my favorite tracks at the moment. Then I usually just leave and let the next guy have a go.

Ladies and gentlemen, once again we have to a conclusion of another karaoke dance party with Bryant the DJ, on behalf of myself, the staff, and the management at the Blues Club, we want to thank you for joining us here this evening, have a safe trip home, and hope to see you next time. Once again, good evening.

At last call I used to say "Last call for alcohol and remember, buzzed driving is drunk driving....so if you are only buzzed you're gonna get popped anyway so you might as well order another drink or two so you get to full blown drunk and make the ticket worth your while!"
I had to quit when the Arizona Liquor Board threatened to site the bar for "enticing customers to drink"....yes, believe it or not there is a law in Arizona which says it is illegal for any employee or the establishment through unneccessary promotion to "entice" patrons to drink.

Couldn't agree more...
Have often had door staff tell me there's been less trouble after I finish at a club. Usually try to play something along the lines of:
New York, New York
Daydream Believer
Mustang Sally (Commitments version)
Sweet Caroline
Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life
At the moment it's "Under The Boardwalk" as the club is "The Boardwalk Bar & Grill". I have the Drifters, Tom Tom Club and Bruce Willis versions and try to vary it a bit so as not to be too repetitive! lol.
Cheers,
Roy
