Topic: problem selecting Denon Asio driver

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi all.

Strange problem here. I have a Denon DN HC 4500 controller which I use with my laptop on Windows 7 32 bit with no problems. However, today I decided to connect this controller for the first time to my standby desktop pc also running Windows 7 32 bit. The latest firmware (1006) is installed on the controller and the Asio 1.1 driver on the desktop, exactly the same as the working laptop.

Virtual DJ sees the controller fine, but when I select the Asio driver in the "Sound set up" menu, I get the message "error in the ASIO sound driver" If i select the pc's internal sound card I can operate the controller with that, including all the midi functions.

I've uninstalled the ASIO driver and re-installed it. Also uninstalled the controller drivers and let them re-install, but still the same problem exists. I've even clicked on restore to factory settings in the mapper settings but it's still the same. I'm also using the lastest version of Virtual DJ 6.0.7 Pro on both machines

Any ideas anyone?

Cheers

Hi Alan,

That's a strange one .... I've had no problems with the 4500 on Windows 7 32bit at all to date.

Is the Denon Asio control panel showing up when you select it from the start menu instead of from within VDJ?

I can't comment on 6.0.7 as I havent upgraded yet & I'm now running VDJ on Mac OS.

Yes, It appears on the start menu...version 1.1. Also launches when I click it. But no matter what I do the ASIO driver error message appears whenever I try to select it on Virtual DJ. I also have an old version of PCDJ VJ (sorry for swearing) and the error message appears there as well.

My laptop has all the same settings yet is fine! I'm baffled

Are you sure your sound settings are correct in VDJ, inputs none, outputs external mixer, sound card Asio?

I know it sounds silly but that's generally the place something goes wrong?

Are you absolutely sure the drivers are installed correctly? Quick tests - look in the Sound properties for Windows - is the 4500 one of the soundcard choices? Or, look through the device manager and make sure the 4500 is listed under the Sound cards section.

Right...I know what the problem is. For some reason the ASIO driver had defaulted to my Skype phone adapter!!!. I selected the proper driver for the phone as communications device and the Denon driver just says "Ready" in the control panel. But still...I get the error message when trying to launch Virtual Dj...arghhhh...

Sometimes I have the same problem with VDJ not recognizing my 4500, if I unplug the denon power & plug it back in it shows up.

It's recognising it all the time..I can cue, scratch alter pitch etc..ie use all the functions on the controller except get sound via the ASIO driver. I've now removed Skype adapter and Skype software, uninstalled and re-installed ASIO driver and uninstalled the 4500 drivers and let them re-install..and still that ASIO error message

It's...not been a good day! :(

The default devices in the windows sound control panel are nothing to do with ASIO, and can be ignored.

In VDJ you just select ASIO from the soundcard type, then the Denon ASIO from the dropdown box that appears below.

I think it might be worth you taking a quick screenshot of your sound setup window just so we can verify that all is OK. I know it's the same as your working laptop, but still worth us double checking IMHO.
