Thanks Jimmy B. I will take you up on your kind offer as time permits. I have so much to do this week, the new laptop may have to wait.
Just for the record, I think VDJ is a very capable piece of software. Why the software went strange on me is unknown and willl doubtless remain so, but it was not a familiar Windows error. I did not once say I was unhappy with VDJ and I agree that any software can let you down, not always because of the software being suspect, but because of conflicts and the sort of general glitches which PCs/laptops, etc. just happen to exhibit every now and again.
I have learnt a lesson about backups and I 'hope' to have a new laptop soon. I will certainly make sure I have the correct version of the VDJ software for backup purposes with me in future.
