I'm thinking of going to timecode purley so i can learn to scratch as the jog wheels on my RMX are a bit too small and i struggle to scratch with them.
I'm thinking of getting a Technics 1200 mk2 turntables and a Numark mixer
I then need a sound card, this is where i get confused.
I don't know how this work as i guess the input will be 3.5mm input jack, but then i guess the output on the card will need to be USSB to work on the computer?
Any help would be great!
Thanks
Dan

On the other hand. I have a Hercules RMX and i do love it. The only down side is the jog wheel's are too small, though i can still scratch (And Dizzle manages to scratch find with it on VDJ Radio)
I was wondering weather if i moved my jog wheel 1/4 on my Rmx, it would move the same amount of music scratched if i moved 1/4 of a 12" time coded deck ? IE, are the movements on the RMX in proportion to that of a real vinyl?
Many thanks

vinal has a difference when you spin it , its a lot like the time code but requires more finess. It takes a lot of pratice. I love playing times code records because If you go into a program like cool edit or a program that you can edit mp3s. you can cut and make samples and load them into the play list and make it so when its done the program loads the next one and soon Im mashing massive amounts of samples and loops. I also make the txt usb tables linked to my mixer because it has digital out. it will take someplaying. I do not like the maya 44 . I have it as well as the delta 66 from M-audio. the actuall rca ends that attach to the maya actually come apart over time. they become loose if you are moving the gear. There is a lot of cards that you can use to do this make sure that they have asio drivers. I looked at one that has 10 in and ten out. Now thing about adding extra stuff then you can add turn tables and cdplayers and more. I have run multi instances with 6 peices. before it crashed but im using a quad core , I also use the other card to record actuall studio stuff. Maya doesnt have the quality to do that.

so i'd need a asio sound card? All i'd need is two special time coded records right? And vdj looks after the rest? How would vdj know i'm using time code! Also, is it worth going for time code? Thanks

Danny,
You have a sound card and mixer - it's called the RMX. You can plug turntables in to the back and run timecode through the RMX. There's even a tutorial video on here to show you how to set it up.
The RMX has an ASIO mode, so all you need to get started - especially just for practicing is just the turntables.
Or, you could just buy one to practice with and have the other deck simply spin your backing track through the RMX deck.
If it goes well and you pick up the skills, you can buy a second deck.
By far the most cost efficient way to get started. You can always upgrade to miker/sound card at a later date.
Cheers,
Roy

1. No you can't have four decks at the same time... You can have to internal, two external or one of each.
2. Yes any turntable will work, however belt drives may not give you the response you need for scratching.
I know you were looking at SL1210's I got mine over 20 years ago and paid £600 each for them back then. There are chaper diect drives out there, just look around the forum, there are plenty of discussions on the good & bad of different makes and models.
The other option I proposed was just to buy a single deck for now. What happens if you can't get the hang of scratching? You'd need to sell two decks right. Buy one, see how you get on and if all is good you can save and buy a second.
Cheers,
Roy
