Hey All, So I have always loved music and loved partying. I find myself constantly downloading new music, and any type from house to techno to hip hop to rock. I am sincerely interested in learning how to DJ. I know most people come on here with dreams to dj HUGE events and such but for right now I just want to learn.
I have the 20 day free trial of Virtual DJ and i have been messing around with that for the past week, trying to learn how to sync beats and fade songs into others so that it sounds good and to set up cues and such.
I have read I should purchase a hercules RMX( don't know what that is) and it will come with a free copy of virtual DJ. I am currently having my laptop reimaged and will devote it solely to music and virtual dj.
I guess what I'm looking for is any information where I can truly learn the skills of becoming a DJ. If i can learn just the basics at first, then maybe I will be able to teach myself new tricks and such, or at least understand what people are discussing on these forums.
I want this more than anything and have the utmost respect for all of you. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks guys!

Start with this link for insights, you can also check Guitar Center for DJ training DVD which are available.

My reccommendation to you is Buy the RMX with the limited ver. of VDJ so you can understand the mechanics involved then move up to the pro ver. as you gain experience.
Good Luck

I agree Joey, the RMX (or similar if that is your preference) and the LE (?) version of VDJ is a great start for any beginner to understand computer based DJ/VJ/KJ-ing.
Bedlinik,
My advice is to dive into these forums, there are a legion of experienced professionals here that will help with your knowledge regarding all aspects of DJing and the ins and outs of Virtual DJ. Whether you want to be a mobile DJ performing at weddings and such, or you want to spin at your local bar or club, people here have been there and done that and are EXTREMELY helpful.
There are YouTube vids on how to mix with VDJ, as well as beginner threads here to help you get started. So, dive in!
oh, and don't be afraid to ask questions...all of us were beginners too and we are here to help.

DJErock...Thanks man. You and Joey have been a great help. I'm sure I will continue to have questions throughout this process. The best thing is knowing I will have all the support and help i need.
It really makes this whole process of starting out a lot easier. I think I'll go to my local guitar center tomorrow and try and purchase a Hercules rmx.
Thanks a lot, I really am going to give this my all.

first of all welcome to vdj, second if you want to learn about djing theres a site you can take a look at. the guy who ownes it wrote the book "djing for dummies". its a comprehensive guide that will teach you everything from equipment to scratching. the book is available for about £15 on ebay and it even fits on your bedside table.

as for the RMX, the RMX is an audio controller that enables you to controll the vdj interface, so you dont have to use your mouse. there is several options when it comes to controllers but the RMX is the daddy. the rmx has an onboard soundcard that allows you to connect external devices such as turntables or cdj's. there is also the mk2 which also has onboard sound and costs less than the RMX. if i remember rightly the RMX is around the £300 mark. adding to the list there is the RMX steel, which i believe is just an RMX without onboard sound. there is also 2 versions of the hercules mp3 controller and a wireless herc mp3 which allows you to mix from the comfort of your armchair. not that its recomended.
you should sit down and think about how far you think your going to go with this. theres nothing worse than having to upgrade all the time because you diddnt start out right. your best option in the long run is the RMx or the mk 2 if your on a tight budget. jumping in at the deep end with the RMX is going to pay off more because theyre pretty much future proof.
anyway enough of my babbeling's have fun her at vdj and good luck.
john..
ps. it took me 3 attempts to post this..damn computers always screwing things up.. first time the net went off second time i tried to copy the post and the computer went daft and i ended up hitting delete instead of copy. and now third times a charm, managed to post it.

John,
I'll be sure to check out that link. And thanks for the persistence in making sure your post got in this thread. I feel like I should get the Hercules RMx as it seems you think it is a good piece of equipment, and i don't mind spending 3 or 4 hundred dollars. My biggest # 1 concern is transitioning from song to song and making it sound good.
I have gone head first into these forums and have read so much stuff about this issue. I feel like once I can transition from song to song with it sounding good and professional...then will come mixing, and cueing and scratching and such. I truly do appreciate all the help though. I have never seen the kind of support i have seen in just one day from posting for help.
Thanks!
