Topic: Earphone problem with Hercules RMX

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I recently bought a Hercules RMX and I run this on VDJ6 pro.
However, there is a nasty clicking sound on the right channel of my headphone.

CPU 2x 1,86 mhz
Mem 2gb.
All visual settings of my vista 32bit are set to performance, as well as the slider on my VDJ.
I am using the latest hercules driver (ASIO) and I allready tried several buffer values.
Safe mode is off, and allso the overclock. Latency is set on auto.
My USB are ticket off as auto hibernate. Anti virus is off too.
There is no sign of extreme CPU use.
It allso seems that when I minimize VDJ the clicking is less often.
Even more strange is the fact that when I change VDJ sound settings to my own onboard soundcard
the clicking is gone.
I allso notice a weird noise when I scroll in a folder while VDJ is minimized.

I posted this problem on the Dutch forum too, but since an important gig is coming up I want to speed it up,
and therefor I posted this on this forum as well.

Can somebody help me out?

First things to check:

- Do you get the clicking sound on both headphone outputs (top and Front) or if you connect speakers to Output 3/4 ?

- Did you try another USB port an/or cable ?

- ARe you connected directly to the computer or through a USB HUB?

- Are you using the latest driver for the Rmx (4.HDJS.2009) and update for VDJ (6.05) ?

Hi, it's on both earphone plus.
The top one and the front one.
If I plug it in on the 3/4 jacks I only hear the left channel, and since I only hear the clicking on the right channel
I can't really tell if the clicking is there.
I checked for updates of VDJ and it says I have the latest version.
I downloaded the latest driver from the Hercules website.
I connected the RMX directly to my laptop, so no hubs in between.
I did not try different ports or cable's, and since I am still @ work I can't really tell right now.
I have to check in an hour or 2.

Thanks for the quick reply.

What are your VDJ sound card settings when you plug the RMX in? I have been successful over the years with the following settings on the sound card tab:

NONE
EARPHONES
4.1 CARD
MASTER - FRONT OUTPUT / HEADPHONES - REAR OUTPUT
HERCULES DJ CONSOLE RMX

Hope that helps. Let us know how you make out.

I tried a different USB port as well as a different cable. No Luck.
I have driver 4.HDJS.2009 and VDJ 6..

I checked the rear ports and noticed now that port 3 is ok, but 4 cracks too.

@HowardShap,

I set the setting as you told me and the clicking is still there.
The clicking isn't related to the volume, it's allways the same volume no matter the volume of the Deck volume.

I just played on a creative USB soundcard and the cracking sound is there too.
Looks allmost like a USB issue.

Today I set it up on my other PC and the noise is gone.
So it must be my laptop having this issue with the RMX.
So it's either
a) a driver issue (some sort of driver collision i guess)
b) my USB is causing noise to any USB audio device.

I would bet my money on B by the way.

hopefully somebody can give me a push in the right direction?
Could it be the USB port doesn´t supply enough power?
Would a powered hub solve anything?

Check if your USB port to don't has any energy saving on it. Try also another ports and don't use any other USB device while testing.

Good Luck
