Virtual DJ General FAQ

Fame What Is it?

Fame is an acronym for Fast Automated Mix Engine. This was developed by atomix and based off of the solid design of atomixmp3 a now distant cousin to VDJ. As you can see, those settings are adjustable, but first we will look at what those features are and how they can benefit you.

Bpm Engine

The bpm engine uses two separate algorithms to calculate the bpm of a given track. There are two choices

  • Tecno/Hip Hop
  • Any Music

For most users the one called any music will work best. There is a new option in 2.1 to scan tracks via right click in the browser with either engine.

    Auto BPM

The auto bpm gives us options on how vdj will react to a track loaded in either player that has not been scanned. those options are:

  • Enabled - This option will scan all tracks loaded into the player it can slow down the track loading process in vdj if your ram is on the slow side.

  • Disabled - This option will turn off scanning of a track when loaded into the player

  • Smart - This option will enable vdj to chose the best option when loading a track to either option. For example if a track is already scaned, it will act as disabled. If a track is not scaned it will act as enabled.

    Auto Gain

This option allows VDJ to control the gain of your tracks loaded into either player the options are

  • Disabled - The track will load with no adjustments to the gain.

  • Always Match - Track will all match the gain level of the first track loaded into the player.

  • Always 0db - Vdj will make adjustments so that tracks will play at what vdj considers to be 0 DB in other words max volume.

Auto Pitch & Auto Eq Rest

Both of these basically do the same thing, rest
when a new track is loaded into either player.

    Auto Cue

The auto cue has three options

  • Disabled - turns off the auto cue feature
  • Enabled - This feature will set to cue #1 if
available if no cue is set vdj acts as it were disabled.

  • Always - VDJ will look for any cue to fast forward to
Reguardless if its number one or not. Track will
load and cue to the first available cue point

    Force Fade

The force fade option relates to VDJ's automix.

Enabled - VDJ will limit the automix to fades only
    with no change in tempo

Disabled - VDJ will automatically change the tempos to match one another "auto beat mix"

    Fade Length

This controls how quickly the automix will fade
from one track to another. In 2.1 this is now a
    Slider rather then a number.

    Crossfader

This Option will control the crossfader behavior

    Limiter

This will control the dynamics processor of VDJ the
limiter is desigend to limit tracks that are too loud

    Time Stretch

The time stretch option will allow you to change the tempo of a song without effecting the pitch

    Disenguage Beat Lock

This feature will control the beat lock in VDJ there
    are three options

  • On Load - turns off the beat lock when you
    load a Track

  • On Switch - turns off beat lock when you
    change the active player

  • Manual - Beat lock will not turn off untill you

manually switch it off via a shortcut or skin button

    More to come....
