Does anyone actually use Advanced keylock (Master Tempo) mode in VDJ? Please post your configuration and what you are using. I want to hear from both laptop and desktop users.

I don't use master tempo at all. When I learned to DJ on vinyl, I never went over 2% pitch +/- or it sounded awful. I still stick to the same rules today so master tempo is never something I would be interested in.

I tried using it on my Pioneer CDJ's in 1995 and it sounded terrible so I never took it any further.

I can agree that Master Tempo on Pioneer CDJ-200 sounds terrible but that was one of the first devices that had this feature. It has been greatly improved on new hardware and software.

I'm sure it was the Mk 1 CDJ-500. Terrible build quality. It had no inbuilt memory buffer so the loops relied on the laser head and never matched. Good to see that Pioneer CDJ's have improved somewhat since then :)

what config info are you wanting?
maybe if you posted an example?

and yes, I use advanced keylock on both my Rackmount and on my Desktop (at home)..
+/- 10 percent though i rarely go over 3%

the Rackmount has a PCI soundcard, where as the Desktop is just a reg built in soundcard..

I've tried many different settings in "Performances/MasterTempo/Advanced" but never got sufficient audio-quality, neither experiments with "Scratch/EnhancedAlgoritm". I've tried on two modern duocore laptops with Vista and W7-64bit (fully loaded) and on a fat quadcore machine. Never had good results. Traktor master-tempo works flawless, perhaps they have a better algorithm... So Key-lock/Master-tempo is disabled in my setup....

Can you try this settings?

This is from my Dell desktop and it works very good. But gives problems on laptops (distortion, slowing down).
I'm using Denon HC4500 (USB) and Presonus Firebox (Firewire) and I get about the same performance.

It's the Spatialization setting thats doing it. 0 is designed for real time timestretching; anything above that is much much more taxing to use in real time.

Hi All

First used a master tempo function on my Tascam CD302 then on the Numark CDN95. When I moved on to VDJ it was natural to use it. I dont use the advanced setting I am only making very small 2 or 3 percent tempo changes. I find that I rarely use more than 5% and this works fine with the basic settings.

Always use the master tempo, always use the default settings. laptop and rackmount have onboard realtek sound and they both work just fine, never had any problem with either on of them.

I don't use any time code or controller so I don't know if or how that might effect it.

I always use advanced master tempo and key lock because it's essential for harmonic mixing.

Default max settings might cause problems in sound skipping unless your soundcard and laptop are very powerful.
I have Fujitsu Amilo 3650, 2,2mhz dual core processor , memory 4GB, nvidia geforece gt 240m and windows 7 laptop + vci-300 controller.

My settings are:

sound card auto
safemode unticked
overclock unticked

48khz <> 44khz
basic interpolation

Scratch
optimize for quality
Enchanced algoritm
filter size 11
filter smooth ticked

Master Tempo
Advanced
complexity 3
Spatialization 0

It is less cpu-demanding settings than the default maximum but I can hear no audible difference to maximum settings. VDJ works very smoothly, no skipping even if I backspin both decks at the same time (with big vob videos loaded).

Just to mention -
Advanced Master Tempo has known audio snippet bug that really should addressed soon. Audio snippet occurs usually after loading deck and sometimes after backspin.

Jaakko and I both have the same settings and totally agreed on the last 2 comments 100%.
To add more, during looping (auto loop) track that is on the loop goes out of sync (very slight but obviously noticeable to the ears) with the one that is playing. Hope this should be addressed soon also.

Sorry but if we had to compare it with the HQ master tempo set-up with the other software (NI) that uses Elastique Pro, you can really see and hear the difference, with the CPU usage, audio quality and software performance and even with the over all soundcard latency settings.

That's my own thoughts only.
