Hi! First of all I'll come clean; my only experience with virtual DJ is with a pirated edition on a mates laptop (naughty). I love it and want to buy a copy for myself, but wanted to check that the cheap edition had everything I'd need?
I'm only looking at doing a bit of bedroom dj'ing, I'm unlikely to want to perform properly. The only feature I wasn't 100% clear on was audio outputs. I'll definitely want to split them, either with a left/right mono splitter on my laptop, or using the 5.1 card in my desktop. Is this possible with the basic edition?
Also, now i think of it, is it possible to save a mix too?
Thanks guys!
EDIT: also, licenses, will I need two copies for my laptop and desktop or is 1 okay? I'll try to talk my mate into getting his own though!
EDIT EDIT: just saw the thread about the update to the program saying it was 'free to pro and basic users'.... is there another difference with the home edition here?

Both Basic and Home Edition allow output to headphones using either mono split, two separate sound cards or a 5.1 card.
The difference between Basic and Home Edition is Basic is based on VDJ v6 rather than older v5 and it also allows separate output of each deck to an external DJ mixer. MIDI controllers are not supported (Pro is required for these.)
All VirtualDJ licenses allow two installs for your own personal use:
The End User License Agreement (EULA) allows you to have the software installed on up to two computers at any one time, providing that they are both for your own personal use and will not be used simultaneously (E.g: Second installation as a backup or for practising at home is OK, allowing a friend or another DJ to use it is NOT allowed.)
You may also uninstall the software from an old computer and then install it onto a new computer.
NOTE: If you intend to sell, give away or dispose of an old computer, you must remove VirtualDJ from it first.

Please see http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/VirtualDJ_History.html
NOTE: Some of these changes/new features apply to Pro only where appropriate (E.g: MIDI controllers, time code, etc.)
