Hey guys....i went into a shop to look at these new toys and got all disappointed when i read the list of software its compatable with :-(
But im all excited again now as i saw its been mapped out for Virtual dj and now, what with xmas coming, i can justify to myself and the wife a new shopping trip!! ;-)
But has anybody actually used them yet or know of anyone that has??
What are like in reality??
Good points, bad points....spill the beans guys!! Only a few more weeks till xmas and im getting itchy feet....hehehe.
Cheers in advance to any replies.

This system is great overall. It definitely gets some adjustments getting use to not having physical faders but it also introduces allot of room for new creative ways to do things. This room for creativity is due to the multi-touch capabilities.
To me, for video mixing, the scs.3m is one of the best ones on the market!
The only downside of the SCS.3d is the tempo sliders. That is the only slider that I really wish were physical because its so easy to nudge it the wrong way & its pretty sensitive to movement so for me it feels like it takes longer to adjust the bpm. Other then that its a great combination.

cool. nice one.
How about the jog wheel? Thats the function that i was wondering about most and forgot to mention above. whats it like in terms of just nudging the track on a bit to get the beat in sync? does it respond well??
Good advice on the bpm fader, thanks. but if fine adjustments are that tricky i guess i could also use a key command on my laptop, so no big issue there.
Thanks.

I had a go at a show and I wasn't impressed at all, felt cheap, looked cheap. I'm a fan of Stanton too so was surprised.

They do look nice but i need something lightweight and portable. I dj while backpacking so need to carry everything with me. At the moment i use a hercules mk2 which is coming to the end of its life and should really upgrade to something new before i hit the road again. I cant imagine travelling on 3rd world buses with denons in my pack ;-)

Where you going?
Loose the mk2 and buy a RMX ASAP

my next trip will be overland from japan to india, probably through cambodia and thailand, then to nepal and india, playing at the psy trance parties. The good points about my hercules is it has the cover which goes over the top panel so the knobs and buttons are protected when its in my backpack, and the onboard soundcard. With that all i need is my laptop, the hercules and a tiny 500gb hard drive i picked up here in japan and im set up to play for hours and hours till the sun comes up.
All in all its a pretty lightweight and small system thats never caused me any trouble. I use it in clubs and outdoor parties here. I also picked up a roland sp-555 sampler recently so my packs starting to get heavier already!! ;-)
The RMX might be troublesome with the knobs and the extra size/weight. Thats why i was looking at the scs3 - but - ive just noticed that the scs doesnt have a headphone socket or phono outputs which means if i bought that id still need to get an audio interface which means more bits and bobs and more cables.
hmnn....back to the drawing board - its never ending!!! Ive still got another 5 months before i leave so ive got time to think about it, but whatever i decide its gonna be a trade off of weight and size. I could just dump the laptop and take cds but with this i can have my entire music collection with me. My trance/tecno tunes on wav for better quality and EVERYTHING else on mp3. If i tried to take that amount of cds it would probably be more heavier than the computer set up.....oh the choices!!! hehehe!!!

I've been rocking a pair of SCS.3ds for a few months now, and I rather like them for what they are.
Granted, I'm also using a physical mixer with an audio interface built in (Mackie d.4 pro), so I can't speak for the SCS 3m. If I could get the 3m cheap, I'd probably do it.
I got an insane deal on the 3ds because Musician's Friend had them on for half price, so I got them for $100 USD each.
I am pretty well acquainted with VDJScript and I was able to customize it to work the way I wanted. I have a picture of my setup in this thread:
http://www.virtualdj.com/forums/115754/Hardware_Technical_Support/Stanton_DaScratch_Mapping_files.html
CStoll made a flat mapper for it (which I modified heavily) and this works great for what I want.
mjh99ent also made a version of the mapper which works with DaRouter that allows for the modality to be used.
For me, the device is great - light, small, and cheap. I can chuck a pair of them in my backpack and forget about it until I gig next time.
They allow me to scratch (to a point) and jog and bend with a high degree of precision. I use them for hotcues and transport controls, and to start loops and effects.
One thing I don't do a lot of is manually adjusting pitch, but I use a *very* fine relative pitch adjustment on the deck for when I do need to do that. Obviously for my levels, gains, and EQs, I use my physical mixer.

@xfosx,
the action of those sliders is really nice in the newest darouter and presets for other programs.
The scs and VDJ together....

and I'm not using anything special here, either.
$400 Acer comp, & NI A4
I use the same firmware as everybody else.
I don't work for stanton.
And last but not least, I am--just as you could probably be--a much better DJ with the SCS than I ever was on traditional gear.
