i have a laptop with W7 and Amd ATI 4650 ......1 gig video ram
HP dual core 7200 rpm 4 gig ram home premium 64 bit
I never had video problems in XP ......
the video freezes for no reason at times .....what i mean is , i'm not downloading a new track , transferring files , nothing except playing the vid
also sbdj's scroll text plug in will freeze and lose texts that have been saved ??
that never happened b4 .....excellent plug in btw
another glitch is when i come out of a video , if the clipbank is the default video output , the clipbank clip will accelerate and stay that way until i turn on or off various video efx until one of 'em does the trick and the acceleration stops.......
the clipbank is usually loaded with shadow dancers , is that the problem ??l
sometimes when i uncheck the hardware acceleration in the video tab trying to unfreeze the vid , the error in video driver box appears

Yes I have the same problems with my Vista HP 64 bit. At first I thought this was a memory problem, but I upgraded my laptop to 6 gigs of DDR3. Same problem as before, made no difference and I am only using half of my available ram running in 1080p. The video freeze can be unfrozen by loading a new track into the deck not playing. You'd better do it quick because if you wait too long the crash guard will pop up.
As for the fast forwarding of the clip bank, I also have that same annoying problem. It is fast forwarding to get to the end of the video so that it can restart the loop in normal speed. This is a bug that needs to be fixed. if you click a different vid and click back it will start at the begining of the video clip and at normal speed. It is especially bad if you have a long video clip playing. It should be an easy fix to simply start the video clip at the begininning when the mp3 starts playing. I dunno why it tries to start in the middle and fast forward to the end.
Anyone know if these problems are being worked on for a future update???

Wow, you know my show is going great, and everything works just right. All my videos play and all my plug-ins work. I am so happy, but maybe I can be happier. I know what I can do. Let's try this new OS, because I don't have anything better to do. OOOOO shit, nothing works now, help me baby Jesus. Wait a minute, the machine is the same, and VDJ is the same, so what could be the problem? Chuck, Chuck, Chuck, does it freeze on the output or just your monitor, or both? Let's try to re-insert, I mean re-install VDJ. Sometimes it can be as simple as that. On the other hand it could be a conflict between W7 and VDJ, which I have not heard about yet. Now that clip-bank speed up thing has plagued me also, but it has been so few and far between, that I forgot about it. So that is not a W7 issue. I have not had any issues with SBDJ's scroll plug in either, it works fine for me. Speaking of that, maybe it's a direct x issue. What direct x does W7 utilize?

I had the same issue with ATI Radeon HD4890 1gb ddr5 and 4870 before that, they say the problem is in video drivers, back then it was 9.7, now you have 9.11 so you can try them out from ATI site. Altough games work fine, I still think that VDJ has problem with ATI cards.

Of course we all want to be happier. Unfortunately, the older operating systems don't support newer hardware like 1080p HD and 64 bit machines are necessary to recognize more than 3 gigs of RAM.
The biggest problem is that the new versions of Virtual DJ do not have a 64 bit version available and everyone is going to 64 bit. Instead virtual dj is relying on wow interpreters to use on 64 bit machines instead of just writing a 64 bit version. Eventually their will be one but in the mean time we all have to wait and deal with the problems that result from software designed to work flawlessly on outdated equipment.
Why upgrade our equipment if everything is running fine? Some of us our running vids on HD 1080p big screens and also impliment high def. graphics, backrounds and video clips into our shows. For this we need HDMI outputs and video cards that have lots of dedicated memory (in my case 1 gig of dedicated superfast DDR3). These are expensive computers and laptops so we kind of expect our software to function at least as well as the older versions. Hopefully we will get a 64 bit version soon that is designed to work with higher end gpu's and windows 7 instead of having to downgrade our resolutions just to keep it from crashing.

Good tip also is if you have problems and you suspect on 64bit system (on Win7) just right click on exe file and go to Properties>Compatibility and put Vista 32bit, should resolve some of issues.

This has been the main reason I haven't been able to use VDJ and I was hoping that this issue would be solved for Vista in the new VDJ 6. Guess it wasn't? Well, I am going to give things a try tonight - I think that you can use some registry tool to try and resolve things?
The issue with the ATI card was that you don't have control over some of the options with the drivers/video, and without that control, you can not properly use the ATI card with VDJ....I am not a crazy technical person, which is why I have been having issues switching to VDJing on VDJ...I just wish it would work? It's just a bummer to pay good money for a piece of software, have a computer that meets all the specs, and just not be able to use it?
I seriously wish I could hire someone to just get it working properly for me? Anyone in MA interested?

Note: Personal opinion here!!!
I don't see the point in playing 1080p videos. At home I watch full HD films, but then my concentration is focused entirely on the film.
In a club I'm not there to watch the videos - I could stay at home and flick through all the music channels if I wanted to do that. Video is an added dimension to the experience and after a few drinks 1080p will look like PAL and after a few more - like NTSC!!!
I'm just getting in to video myself and have been watching what people do when they're on. Some will notice and realise that it's me spinning them and even point at the screen when I mix them, however they soon go back to their conversation/drinks/dancing and the videos fade in to the background casually glanced at from time to time. Some don't even notice. I hve not had anyone, fnd a comfortable seat sit back and watch them in a way that would require full HD!
I'm not trying to put down Video DJ's, in fact I want to add this to my repertoire, but need to keep reality in mind, plus the fact I hve a far larger back catalogue of standard DVD format videos to choose from than HD ones.
@DJ James, good luck with getting the issues resolved. I just think you maybe on the bleeding edge of technology here, pushing video to the next level, and everything else still needs to catch up with you ;-)
Cheers,
Roy

I wonder if the people at Atomix are aware of and working on the problem. We keep getting new updates but none of them are addressing the video freezing (also occurs with nvidea cards). I have seen several people on the boards complaining about this but no mention of a possible fix from the folks at VDJ. This is a major bug that causes VDJ to crash quite frequently and you would think that it would be a top priority to get this fixed. This is not a memory issue either. I have a 1 gig dedicated vid card and 6 gigs of ram running 1080p video. All this only uses 3 gigs of ram. The only quick fix I know of is to IMMEDIATLY throw another track into the player that just finished playing after you mix. Doesn't matter what song but you have to load in the new track in less than 30 seconds to prevent the crash guard from poppin up. Sometimes you can wait longer but i have had it crash on me in as few as 38 seconds. So don't get distracted and forget to load in the next track right away.
Hope this helps for now.
VDJ Help us out on this one please.

The video's I play are standard definition. VDJ just upscales them to 1080p to fit the screen. The reason for 1080p is the clarity that hdmi can deliver on a 1080p screen for the plugins like sbdj scroll, show logo, as well as background vids that come in HD. People can read the club announcements scrolling across the bottom of the screen from all the way across the room. That could never be done with s-video or composite. The technology for 1080p resolution has been around for a while now. Just waiting on the VDJ software to catch up.

HI ALL, SAME PROBLEM
same problem that everybody else is having I'm running
V6.0.7
Computer specs
ASUS G73H
windows 7 64bit
i7 720qm
ATI HD 5870 Video Card
8gigs ram
1GB DDR5 Dedicated memory.
I'm a computer tech, so what i did was install a second operating system on the same computer, (Windows XP 32bit)took out 4 gigs and left it with only 4 gigs of ram, installed all the updated drivers including ati driver, and EVERYTHING WORKD PERFECT MEANING COMPUTERWISE,
different operating system SAME PROBLEM. EVEN more freezes
my conclusion IS
NEW HD CARDS (ATI OR NVIDIA) causes the integrated video or WMP decoder to fail in VDJ (AND PCDJ VJ SAME COMPANY), even installed k-lite 32 and 64 bit decoders, made them default for WMP so VDJ could use them when I Chose WMP as a decoder. everything still failed...
I CAN'T FIND ANOTHER VIDEO DJ SOFTWARE THAT CAN DEAL WITH THESE NEW HD VIDEO CARDS... I RULED OUT THE NEW i3, i5 or i7 processors because other people have had the same problem with other older processors.
we need a fix quick, i rely on solely video remixing, I tried, VOB, AVI, MPG, MPEG, MP4 and still gave me the same problem, even SOMETIMES with CD+G

Hi all
I have this problem with this too - clipbank going in to some strange warp speed mode when using it as the default plugin for audio files, which I sometimes do.
Personally, I like the fact that when you start playing a video file VDJ seems to "pause" the clipbank until another audio file is played, restarting the clipbank from the point it was left at - very useful if, for example, you have a long photo montage video file as the clipbank, but it does get spoiled rather by this bug as the montage plays out at accelerated speed when you fade back to it.
Cheers
Pete
