My system:
Dell Inspiron 1545
Microsoft Windows XP
Professional X64 Edition
Version 2004
Service Pack 2
Intel Pentium Duo CPU
T3400 @ 2.16Ghz
2.16Ghz. 3.96GB of Ram
Hercules RMX
Ran DP Latency Checker: Running around 100 but yellow spikes every 15-20 seconds around 1500. Getting red spikes intermitently.
Turned off Wireless and it seems to stop the red spikes but yellow spikes still very consistent every 15-20 seconds.
Did a gig last night and the audio skipped about every 2 minutes.
Any suggestions would be helpful.

I know have suspended the ACPI.sys driver, disabled every driver known to man and still get yellow spikes every 15-16 seconds. I have deactivated every program in the control panel and still the same problem. I even made sure that every driver was current.
I am hoping someone out there with a Dell Inspiron 1545 has found a solution because it is getting to the point where I am going to switch brands. DELL needs to get this under control. ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HELP SOMEONE. Hoping someone has an idea that I haven't tried yet with this laptop.

FINALLY after hours and hours of pulling my hair out and trying everything I read on blogs and google search I found the culprit!
I UNPLUGGED MY BATTERY and bingo!!! Everything is in the green. Go figure.
Now I have to find out why the heck having the battery unplugged fixies the latency issue with a Dell Inspiron 1545.

The peak could be related to the application checking the level of the battery, which isn't really noticeable unless you are working with audio :-)
Here is a document that explains other changes you can do to your computer to improve performances.

Hi there!
I have got the same problem. Did you find the solution? Did the new battery resolve it?
All the best!

It is most likely a power management issue.
If you have Dell Quickset installed- remove it.
Also try running the system in "always on" mode. It is supposed to max out the CPU Frequency. I had to use RMClock to "remove the CPU throttle" See http://cpu.rightmark.org/products/rmclock.shtml
BTW, why are you running XP on that thing? I wouldn't think there would be any supported drivers on a "new" Inspiron with XP. If you run lets say Win7, you can just set the power management "High Performance".
thanks,
David
