Topic: Controller help suggestion VISTA

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

hello i am in the need of a little help. i just brought a new Toshiba laptop, had a mixer, case, dac-2 and a few other items laying around.
so i put it all together come to find out that there isnt a driver for a dac-2 to run with vista x64.. so i thought maybe i go get a Hercules RMX, i love what it has to offer mixer, sound card, virtual dj controller.. i am not liking if i had to restart the laptop i would loose mic use as the Hercules is all usb powered. Maybe i use a usb powered hub?
now what i would love is maybe i grab a numark dmc2 but i thing they are all discounted? or does someone know how i can get a dac-2 to work with vista since i cant find driver for it..

i am looking for any help or suggestions to this problem
my system spec are toshiba 2.8 dual core pros 4gb ram 18.4 screen win vista x64 all tweeked to run vista
1.5 western digital ext hard drive
and yes that is a small walk-man cd player i am using in case some one gives me a cd or i can just the plug mini 1/8 to go to a ipod!!

I run my DAC2 with Vista.

Just install the drivers and start DJ'ing.

many of the dj contrllers out there don't support 64bit but i think the Hercules RMX dose

The RMX does, the VCI-300 does, and if I'm not mistaken, the Maya soundcard does. I think Numark has been working on catching up on 64 bit drivers for their DJ gear as well.

I have a Pioneer DJM 800 and a RMX and I like using the RMX in a lot of my gigs. I run Vista 64 and it has no problems with the RMX. If you don't want to go out and buy a sound card, midi controller, and a mixer, go with the RMX.

I am really thinking of the Hercules RMX but i have heard that the mic levels are not of great quality.. See i all ready have the mixer, gig-a-port usb sound card, so i thought hey lets build a small system. I forgot to check if the dac2 will work with vista 64bit.
I have heard that windows 7 will allow a lot of older software/hardware to run! but i am not sure.
See all my other systems use a Numark DMC-2 but i just learned that is no longer available.
For those that use the Hercules what do you think of it. If i was to get one i would get rid of my mixer, ext sound card and just use the rmx unit for all..
what do you do if you have to restart the computer while you are at a gig? since he rmx unit gets all its power from the usb port? could i use a powered usb hub then connect that to the computer..
Thanks for the help

Absolutely not! Mic levels are really bad (+no EQ controls at all on mic) on the rmx, also as already said, rmx relies on PC/laptop for power, so you really need a mixer other than the rmx for an alternative audio source (and mics! imho). Rmx sound card is fine, so you'll be safe enough getting rid of your external sound card ;-)

I've used the RMX on many gigs since Feb. of this year and I've never had a situation where I had to reboot the computer. I've never had VDJ crash on a gig to the point of restarting the computer either. If it did all I would have to do is put a music cd in my cdj 1000 and use it instead of time code. Yes it does run off of usb, but the chances are slim that you would really have to worry about a crash that bad. Any sound card you use will run off of usb. As far as using the mic is concerned, just use a cheap tube mic preamp to boost your signal into the RMX.

ok so i agree how many times will i have to reboot?? that is the unknown.. how about this i go with my mixer, gigaport sound card and Hercules Steel controller .. what is everyone thought on that controller that way i still run my mic and ext cd player thru my main mixer and use the Hercules Steel controller as a VJ controller
