Hello! I believe this may have been posted before, but I am looking for a clear answer:

I am aware that in OSX 10.5.7 there was major issues with the MIDI drivers and compatibility with the Denon HC4500.

Does anybody know if these issues were addressed and fixed in OSX 10.5.8 (Leopard) and in 10.6 (Snow Leopard)?

Additionally, does the updated Denon firmware (v1006) work with either 10.5.8 or 10.6?

PLEASE, all of us are wating for this answer.
I paid for this software and I can't use it for 3 months at least!!!!!! WE NEED SOLUTIONS NOW!!!!!
The problem is not only about leds....... I CAN'T USE IT AS CONTROLLER!!!!!!

Who have to solve this??? DENON? APPLE? VDJ???

This is my work, and I need to trust in a product that i paid for...
 
i work with 10.5.8 , VDJ 6.0.2 and the latest firmware of the denon controller and have NO problems

Alrighty, so I was able to do the upgrades and everything works GREAT!

Here is my current system:

- Denon HC-4500 firmware v1006
- Virtual DJ version 6.0.2
- Mac OSX Snow Leopard 10.6

Some notes on my upgrade process which worked:

A. Install Virtual DJ 6.0.2

1. Perform a COMPLETE uninstall of 5.2.1. Here is where I got the info on which files to delete:

2. Install VDJ 6.0.2 (Obtainable in the "Download Center" from the VDJ website)
3. Restart your machine

B. Installing the HC-4500 Firmware

1. You can obtain the firmware from:
http://www.denondj.com/firmware.aspx?ProductId=81
2. All the instructions you need for the upgrade will be included in the download package.

C. Setting up the OSX 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Audio Midi Settings

1. Go to Applications >> Utilities >> Audio MIDI Setup
2. Select DN-HC4500 from the menu on the left
3. Make sure under "output" you have the following setting for "format": 44100.0 Hz, 4ch - 16bit

D. Setting up Virtual DJ to work with the DN-HC4500

1. Open Virtual DJ
2. Click "Config" from the top menu bar
3. Under the "Sound Setup" tab use the following settings:
a. Inputs: None
b. Outputs: External Mixer (Left Deck: Front Output / Right Deck: Rear Output)
c. Sound Card: 4-Card Out (DN-HC4500)
d. Click "Apply"
4. Under the "Mappers" tab make sure "Denon DN-HC4500" is the selected setup from the top drop-down field
5. Under the "Performances" make sure you have "Latency" set to Auto.

That should be it! The mapper the delivered is very powerful. To learn all the commands to go Config >> Mappers and check out what all buttons do.

congratulations for your set awarsawski... i'm evaluating which midi controller buy... originally i wanted vci-100 or vci-300 but at this moment don't run with snow leopard... so the other option was rmx.... but someone in the forum recommended me DN-HC4500...since i like scratch

my question is... how do you feel running DN-HC4500?... can you use headphones, mic, preview without an additional sound card?... what about the mapping in vdj, everything oks? how many inputs and outputs do u have?

yes the Denon is a verry good buy....
why you schould use a additional soundcard, the denon soundcard is verry good.
The mapping in VDJ 6 is really good, much better than the VDJ 5
 
The Denon DN-HC4500 is intended to be used in a rackmount setup with an external DJ mixer, such as Denon X500 or X900 which allow video crossfading using the mixer's real crossfader.

The built-in sound card of the HC4500 has two separate outputs for each deck. While you could use the HC4500 stand-alone, it does not have a headphone output (You would normally use the headphone PFL of the external mixer.)
 
I have been an avid Denon user since the days of the 1800F. For anybody who has used Denon CD players and tried out other brands (ADJ, Stanton, etc...) You will know that Denon has a very distinct feel.

The reason I bought the HC-4500 was to maintain the feel which I was so used to. And as reluctant as I was to switch from CDs to digital, I love the HC-4500. For me it is feels exactly like every other Denon product I have used. From the cue style to seeking, hot starts, etc...

The only difference between this and other past Denon products is that you drag the songs to the decks in VDJ rather than putting in a CD. =)

With the Midi mappings included in VDJ the functionality is almost identical to that of the DN-D4500 and the DN-HD2500. So if you have used those before the transition to the HC-4500 will be a breeze.

If you look at my set up instructions you will notice that I mention that you have to set the sound card type in the VDJ "Sound Setup" tab to "4-Channel Out" and select that you will be using the HC-4500's build-in sound card. The "4-Channel Out" feature allows for the sound card in the HC-4500 to split up the the two decks to two separate channels in your mixer.

Since each deck will be routed to it's own channel in your mixer, you can use the mixer's features to cue songs via your headphones without outputting sound through your live speakers.

So, if you are reading this post SAT-test-taking-style, only the first sentence and the last. ;-) I will swear by the HC-4500 and I find that it functions like every other Denon CD player I have used in the past.

Software: VDJ 6.0.2
Media Controller: Denon DN-HC4500 (Firmware v1006)
Mixer: DN-X500
Microphones: (1) PGX-14/30 & (1) PGX-24/58
 
Are you only using it for audio, my understanding is video on VDJ version 6 is still pretty crappy
 
I use it only for audio and it's great for that.

I have never really gotten into the video jockey field, so I can't speak speak too much for that side of VDJ.
 
all the above config settings metioned are excellent

just finished up a 5 hr gig with no problems

ive fallen in love with this denon

i dont think ill be doing anymore timecodes(vv,deejaytrim)

For the $29.00 upgrade you get Snow Leopard and then run all the udpates...best thing i ever did (providing you have a Core 2 Due machine)
