What does VDJ Pro do that the VDJ Hercules Rmx version cannot?
I would like to know exactly what I am spending $149 to get...
(I cannot find a list of extra features/uses, so I don't see why I'd upgrade until I know the benefit)
Thank you, I'm very happy with the trial software and want to know this because I may either buy new Hercules Rmx or get a used unit off eBay (which would likely already have been registered, so no discount on VDJ Pro).

I saw this:
http://www.virtualdj.com/products/comparison.html
But it does not explain the "limitations" of plugins and skins.
If I buy Hercules Rmx, I get access to skins and plugins, correct?
I am on a netbook, so I need 1024x600 skin.
Also, I assume I can use plugins with DJC versions.
Am I wrong?
Why upgrade to VDJ Pro?

There are very few downloads made available to Limited Edition users, which RMX comes with LE license. Still a great product, I use original version that came with my MKII. (3.4 LE) But I can't download fancy skins or plugins. Most full time working DJ's need the pro tools and features that you gain access to by purchasing the pro license.
Great community, great product, lots of helpful folks.

I see.
Performance wise, the LE does everything the Pro version does... except that LE does *NOT* give you access to skins and plugins.
Is this correct?
I have also heard that LE does *NOT* allow for seamless looping with loop-assist function.
Yes, it allows for looping, but not easy to change between 16/8/4/2/1 segements.
Is this correct, also?
WHY DO I ASK?
The Hercules Rmx, if bought new, comes with LE and the ability to upgrade.
For people like me (on a budget), I am considering buying a used Herclues Rmx, and will then likely have to pay $299 for the Pro version.
If I understand the benefits of Pro, I am willing to shell out more.
If not, I won't upgrade to Pro and buy used gear.
It sounds like I am better off buying a new Rmx unit.
If VDJ support pays more attention to Pro users, then that could be very beneficial.
I am running on a netbook that dual-boots to Mac OS X and XP, so I think I'll go Pro... just not 100% sure yet!
Thanks for the help.

If you are mixing from 1 track to another, apply minor effects, and are completely comfortable with the LE controls/sensitivity... the LE is the right product for you.
If you want the ability to mix video, play karoke, and configure the software differently than out of the box... as well as other finishing touches... then you will want the pro version. In pro, you can control the sensitivity of the jogwheel for example, if the EQ resets when you load a new track to the deck, or if it stays according to the MIDI dials mapped to those functions...
LE is unpolished and scaled down version. Pro will allow you to tweak functions, taylor it more to your needs.
From an online experience on virtualdj.com, with a registered Pro license you will get access to plugs ins, effects, skins, tools, etc... that both Atomix and other users produce. Users that produce plug ins and skins submit them to atomix to test and validate they do what they say they should do prior to publishing them to the community.
I can tell you... I bought a DMC2 over 2 years ago which came with the Cue 4.3 LE version, which did not even let you output Deck A and B separately to your sound card. Therefore I had to buy the full version for $299 (full price.) There was not an upgrade path at that point. Numark did offer a limited time upgrade rebate path later on. I would have jumped at the chance to have had an upgrade path at that point in time. For $150, it is an unbelievable offer considering you get anything you could want for as a DJ: Audio, Karoke, and Video and a VERY open way of working with about any hardware you can find.
With Traktor LE, you get a path to upgrade from LE to PRO for $119. Which is cheaper than the VDJ path; however the most notable addition in the Traktor LE to Pro upgrade is you get 4 decks rather than 2. The only other note worthy aspect is a long list of effects. You will not get video or Karoke support I believe. Traktor is Audio only, $199 off the shelf, and $119 to upgrade from LE. Traktor is becoming more open to more devices, including HID support. However it does not match the long list of devices that will work or have the potential to work if you are good at using the VDJ script MIDI/HID mapping function in VDJ.
So if you look at the $119 vs $149 price points. You get a heck of alot more with VDJ Pro. It just comes down to if you need all those things now or plan to in the future.
With Serato Scratch, you have to use the time coding solution. No controllers. With Serato ITCH, you will only have the choice of a hand full of controllers with sound cards baked in. The hardware is highend and cheapest option is $900. There is nothing to upgrade with ITCH as it only has 1 version. There are updates coming to include video, however I would expect that to be very basic....
So if you look at the $899 to $1299 price points for the Vestax and Numark options for Serato itch compared to $350 for the RMX + $150 upgrade = $500... there is a BIG difference. Some will swear by the RMX as a true competitor to the NS7 and VCI300, while others will say it is an "entry level." Either way, the RMX+VDJ Pro solution without a doubt offers more options by far.

Thank you for the response.
VDJ LE v5 is awful and slow, for some reason.
I upgraded to VDJ Pro v6 on the first day.
VDJ Pro works much better on my netbook, and the CPU usage is LESS than VDJ LE v5 for some reason!
Also, it should be noted that the audio engine has been refined a LOT in VDJ Pro v6.
It is way, way better sounding and more responsive than LE v5.
I work in large clubs and am used to DJing on CDJ1000mk3s or CDJ800mk2s.
A lot of people had been using Serato, but "internal mode" doesn't give you any real control over the music (mouse clicking is not efficient) and I hate using that awful audio I/O box, control vinyl, needles, etc... and then the turntables don't always work, there's skipping, etc... bulky and annoying - CDJs take up less space, require less setup!
But I hated burning CDs, so I got VDJ.
I tried Traktor and Serato and Ableton Live and VDJ and Live seem to be the only ones I'd ever use.
You're right - for the price and functionality, VDJ wins.
If any of you out there are thinking about VDJ LE or VDJ Pro, get VDJ Pro.
It functions on an entirely new programming script and seems much more responsive.
The syncing is far better, the addition of 3rd party FX is wonderful, and controller support is an added bonus.
I don't run any video or karaoke and am on a tight budget, but VDJ Pro is a must, really.
The LE version is more like a trial. It's not really all that useful for paying gigs, I think.
Go for Pro!

i'm 100% sure that other djs will scoff at Hercules RMX + VDJ being used instead of CDJs or Serato, but...
This system is so small, light, and quick to setup that it's totally worth it, haha
I've noticed the only people who care what you use to DJ are other DJs... the crowds don't usually care as long as it looks legit and sounds good ~
