Topic: First gig using VDJ

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I had a gig using VDJ for first time yesteday. I was supposed to DJ/KJ for 3 hours and it turned into 7 1/2 hours of nonstop music. Everything ran great. Only crashed one time towards end of night and it was because my CPU overheated not due to software. Only thing that scared me a few times is when I would select my external harddrive from the browser/search tab I had repeated lag that I never had before, I'm sure it is something in settings I have done wrong.

I must give a big thanks to Cstoll for pointing me in right direction on a few things I had wrong in my sound card set up with VDJ. VDJ Pro gets a big 2 thumbs up from this DJ/KJ.

Yea my 2nd gig with 6 was yesterday and it went great. Also 2nd gig with no crashes so alright there too. Great job on the software, to all how are involved. Also, thanks to L2 for the Turntablist 5.2 skin. It puts the perfect finishing touch on a great piece of software. Now, if only I could find more work;)

great to hear you guys are enjoying vdj, my usual 6 hour gig saturday night was made into a 7 hour gig last night did'nt even think about the software it just worked... no hiccups, nothing.

Diskjockeywatty,

Is it the first time you have used software to DJ from?

Would your external drive be going into sleep mode by any chance?

No I just made the switch from my old software to VDJ. I am happy iwth the move.

As far as my external HD going into sleep mode, I don't think so. I used the same HD with my other software and never had the lag issue. I am going to re-optimise Windows tonight and see if that helps. Music still plays smooth and no-one in the crowd knew I was having this problem just my screen would freeze for a few seconds.

And I DO have a fan/cooler that my laptop sits on to keep it cool....but something happened to it about half way threw the gig. I would explain what happened...but I get the feeling might be some kids here so I will restrain myself LOL. Lets just say it envolved a long neck bottle of beer and a drunk lady leaning over my table after singing to say something to me. I'll leave it at that.... AND I am kicking my self for not having a video camera rolling :-)

Glad you hear your 1st gig went well! As a fellow DJ/KJ and VJ I'll just say your switch from old software to VDJ was the right one. I've been gigging with V6 for around 2 months, and after tweeking a new laptop (with vista - first time vista user here) to run video and audio I'm glad with my decision and haven't had any computer related issues (*KNOCKS ON WOOD*).

I've had similar problems with the screen freezing in the past - definitely check to see if there is a power saving mode for your external, and in your computer's device manager - check to make sure your usb root hub's power management is set to NOT turn off to save power. Also, try a small getting 4" or so fan to keep the HD cool - remember, they like a cool environment too.

Good luck with all your gigs! And carry a video camera!

Hi,

glad it went well for you guys. About this freeze when browsing folders, I get that as well, never found a way to make it stop. But i think it tends to be when opening a folder with a large amount of files or other folders in. To get around this you could make some filter folders, playlists or virtual folders so then you won't need to browse the actual hard drive so much whilst you're gigging.

We can explain how to do that if you're not sure, but I think it's explained in the manual (contained in the vdj folder on your programs list.)
