Hey, I'm an established NYC mobile and club DJ and just got booked on a wedding in Jackson, MS. Go figure. I need to hook up with a local company down there to rent the appropriate equipment for the event. The wedding is coming up in September so I need to get in touch with someone soon to secure the rentals. Unfortunatley my social professional network doesn't stretch to the Bible belt.
Any help?

how in the world does a nyc dj get booked for a redneck wedding? You must be getting at least 3k for this gig to cover services, travel, hotel, rental equipment, etc.
Hope you have a nice mix of country and christian. hahahaha J/K. I'm sure it will be the usual Platinum heavy, promo only country heavy, and promo only radio light.
I wish I could help you out. My family lives about an hr southeast of there.
Have you tried google? Maybe call up a few schools and see if the secretary has any info.
I know a club jock or two but no mobiles.

just look any dj directory and place the city, state in the search field and start making phone calls. I agree, Unless thier paying you premium dollars to travel half way around the country.

I know, it's pretty wacky but hey are willing to pay the price and cover all the travel and accomodations. A family member of the bride saw me at a wedding in jersey and was convinced they wanted me there. Platinum series and country radio for sure! Oh boy. It will give me a chance to flex my muscels a little and learn a new culture. I did the google thing and checks DJ listings for the area, and based on what I found the "norm" down there is comprised of peavy and berringer equipment. No disrespect to those companies or thier users, but I prefer and am accustomed to Rane, EAW, RCF, Crown, etc. and am a bit apprehensive to using a different standard of equipment.
I'll be sure to keep up guys updated on the event. It's sure to be quite a story after it's all said and done.
Thanks for the lighthearted responses!

No surprise about Peavy...their main headquarters is about an hour to 2 east of Jackson in Meridian.
The mobile guy I work for in New Orleans is nothing but JBL and EV speakers, mixture of Crown and Peavy amps (Crown is primary Peavy more as backups), Pioneer cdjs and mixers, etc.
Good luck with your search for rental equipment. Nothing back from this guy I know in the Jackson area.

Well, just an update on how the event went.....
The family ended up borrowing a system from their local church, so I rolled in with just my laptop not knowing what at all to expect when I got there.
I was provided 2 mackie 10inch powered speakers, a samson mixer that could only be used as a live sound board for a very small band (which by the way, was such shoddy quality that I couldn't put the master past half without getting hiss and static like you wouldn't believe! There was also no cue function for individual channels [thank you cue points!]), and a shiny, Elvis styled wired mic.
Well, I tapped into the mixer using a mono split out of the headphone jack so I can use two mixing channels, and for cueing...well, this is where it got ghetto and a little inventive. My laptop has two headphone outputs so I used one to mono split the signal to the board, and the other to plug my headphones directly in. That way, I had the right channel playing in channel 1 on the board and in the left side of my headphones, and vice versa for the right! heh, that was a first, but it worked!
Anyway, the wedding went great, and they have never seen a "NY style MC" before. Strange thing is, I booked 2 more weddings off of that one, and am in negotiations about a third. I guess if they are willing to pay the way, I could use a little religion in the Bible belt!
ya'll come back now.

Glad to hear it worked out for you.
Maybe for the next one you can find a local dj to see if you can rent a mixer. Guys who have multiple systems might be willing to let you rent one, if they seem hesitant tell them you will pay one of his guys to babysit it just for peace of mind.
