ok, so I recently upgraded to pro and went to record a practice mix....when I hook the cable up to the "line in" (microphone in) one of my speakers stops working. when I unplug the cable to stop recording I get the speaker back....is this normal or is something not right here? any idea on how to fix it if it is something wrong?

My bet is that the socket is duel use. I've seen this before.. where to keep the cost down, they set the sockets on your motherboard so that you can have either surround sound output, OR stereo out and line in/mic in. You need to look at your motherboard manual and or drivers to confirm if this is the case.
Oh, and as an aside.. you dont need to hook up a line in cable anyway.. well.. depending on how you mix, if you use the internal mixer, you can just record from master out in VDJ. Otherwise, if you have an external mixer, yes you will need line in.

uh??? i dont get this, why do you need a line in at all??? in my experience you just hit the record button in vdj and no matter what controll you are using the software records direct to your hard drive...
can someone please explain why someone would need a line in to record a mix???

If you're using an external mixer.

I am using an external mixer as my soundcard and mixer both (C3USB mixer). come to find out it was combination of of things. Inside the line in was dirty/dusty, and the cable was bad. I spent 4 bucks on a new cable and about 1 second of breath and it cleared it right up, lol. thanks for the help though guys.

still not quite got this?????????? if the software records whatever you play then why the need for the line in even with an external mixer???
or is it like this
the external mixer cant controll or feed back to the software, so another source has to be used?
though this still seems odd because cant you just plug the output of the mixer to another..... ahhh i see now never mind lol.
so the mixer has to be looped back to the system via the line in or some other means.

nah, I got it, what it was was the input on the laptop for the line in was dirty as well as the plug was messed up on the wire. so 4 bucks and a breath and it was fixed, lol. Thanks anyway. I've just been using it right now to record me practicing so I can go back later and listen to it and see what it sounds like and where I screwed up.
