If you are like me.....running your laptop while doings multiple things on it can cause it to get very warm. I, myself, have tried 3-4 laptop coolers but they all got returned cause they did not do a very good job for me and my HP laptop.
But, I came up with an idea when doing a gig (playing music off my laptop but no virtual vinyl or anythign else...monkey media... : (
I have a carpeted coffin for my 2 pioneer 1000mk3s but the laptop stand it came with had carpet as well. so of course, this caused my laptop to get warm quick. quick thinking, I used four beer caps to raise the laptop off the carpeted stand.
then i came up with this solution. believe me guys, this really works. made a quick video on youtube- check it out:

just buy a small 4"inch desktop fan at Target or wherever and presto! get four bottle caps and you will have a cool laptop. try it.

All that, sheesh. They sell a small laptop stand that lifts the machine off the ground a few inches, gives it a nice tilt. It was designed for that purpose. A laptop cooler can be placed underneath now with a nice airflow pattern, or the use of a mini fan as well.

Simple as it may be, aux cooling is highly recommended by me.
I have a 64cfm puller fan in the side of my gig box.
If you are relying on a cooling device to keep it alive, the condenser maybe plugged (cooling grill)
Been there, got the tshirt and piercing long ago.

hhhmmmm very strange ive found the best way to solve overheating problems is to buy a decent laptop in the first place.lol.
ive had several laptops and the best makes in my opinion are compaq and top of the shop ACER. these 2 i have never had any problems with. i own a compaq prosignia that is like 10 year old and has never overheated once and has never ever been cleaned inside or repaired in any way. my acer however is only about 5-6 years and has also never overheated or been repaired.. where my toshiba and my HP (no longer working) used to overheat all the time and is the reason they are broken.
isnt it strange how the more you pay for something the more it goes wrong.....

I've been using one of those 4" fans for quite sometime for my ACER. Sorry Blulite, but even my top of the line ACER gets hot especially as I mix video most nights. I only paid $4.99CDN for mine though-lol And instead of bottle caps I have furniture felt protector strips permanantly mounted to the lappy to raise the back end about an inch to allow for airflow. This combo does the trick & soleves the heat issues I was having.

lol wow $4.99 no wonder it overheats.lol.
it sounds strange to hear of an acer overheating.... have you blasted the fan with an air duster or attacked it with the vacuum at all? sometimes a good suck and blow (hmm sounds dirty) will do the trick.
have you tried moving your laptop from above your other equipment, like to the side, heat rises afterall.. once i get my setup sorted i plan to seperate my laptop screen from the base and use a 22" monitor instead. so i can hopefully put my laptop base "under" the rest of my equipment on a sliding shelf.
furniture strips.....lmao i would have probs just glued a piece or 1" x 1/2" timber to my shelf rather than stick stuff to my laptop... but each to their own i suppose.lol.

I run video hard for over 5 hours a night five nights a week, with a Denon HC4500 and an external hard-drive so she is working pretty hard. I'll post a pic of my set-up at the club I do Saturdays & trust me with THAT fan you will NEVER overheat-lol

if laptops came with a warning or some kind of heat rating system, trust me. a cooler laptop would have been purchased instead.

I use the Stanton Uberstand and have an Akasa cooling plate on top of it held on with velcro. I have been using this combination for several years, I even bought a second one for my home laptop too. The Akasa cooling plate is not connected to the laptop directly, but, instead is powered from my powered USB hub. Works fine.
The setup is in my profile pic, I have a different laptop to the one in the pic, I use an HP G70 now.

Odyssey "L" stand here with a 10" Wal-Mart fan pressed against the heat sinks and held in place by a microphone stand. Check my "Music Groups" subscriptions feeder status and you will see that I run a lot of music videos which causes my lappy to overheat, the fan really helps, I'd say it adds at least 2 hours more problem free gigging.

The picture in the profile can't be seen very clearly. Too dark. Do you have a larger clearer one. Would like to see what you got there under the laptop?

So as promised here are the pics of the "Ultimate" cooling device.

Get one of these industrial bad boys humping & overheating does not enter the equation-lol
Kind of embarrassing for my little 4" fan though

If you go to my profile and click on my website there's a larger version of the same pic under equipment or, better still, take the link on my website to myspace. There is loads of pics under DJ Setups & Equipment (page 2), you need to be registered with myspace to see them tho. ;-)

The 6.99 fan is a handy solution, thanks for sharing.
I use a Laptop cooler, swiss gear and keeps the laptop cool. But I will buy that handy fan to keep cool my external hard drives (3) that heat a lot.
