had spent the last couple of days.....analyzing music in VDJ.. thought i would just leave it analyzing a few more things just stepped out for a while
came back computer was off
Assumed the the electricity went for an extended period of time
rebooted.. opened VDJ... message.. Database corrupted.. please fix
decided to copy database before i pressed fixed... noticed 273kb instead of 10MB
went back into vdj pressed fix....
checked database again.. this time it read 53kb
FOUR YEARS of work.. gone just like that........ plus i had a gig the same evening.... two hours before show time... (well i had a hard drive going down on me same day I had one of the biggest gigs too). .story of my life....
Luckily.. yes luckily.. i needed some music for my music group a couple days before.. so i had copied the database to an external....last time i backed up..
Point is..... losing four days of intense sorting out is still better than FOUR YEARS of work...
Users.. please remember to back up your database files as often as you can

If you're using Vista then there's likely a recent(ish) backup. If you're using Business or Ultimate, rightclick on the file and choose 'Restore Previous Version'. If you're using any other version of Vista then give the following program a try:
http://www.shadowexplorer.com/
Note: you need System Restore enabled otherwise automatic backups aren't created.
But like the program states on it's page and you correctly said, the best course of action is to make manual backups.

I keep an extra folder on every drive that contains a backup xml which gets manually updated weekly. It's always a great idea to backup your database!

The strangest thing... is that it crossed my mind to make a backup before i left.... something that only take seconds... I never did.....
Pains to learn...

Other than bpm's, lenghts of songs and cue points I don't have any edits, I edit all the file names and tags in the popular tag and rename software so that when I use my collectioin with other software it displays correctly. I remember when i moved from pcdj to vdj and I had edited all my artist title info from with in pcdj! It was all for nothing.

Could you please tell me what you mean by backing up the database? I back up my song files on a separate hard drive, but don't think that's what you meant. Thanks!

Just create a file called VDJ database copy.bat in the location where the VirtualDJ Database v6.xml file is.
and put the following commands in the file;
@echo off
XCOPY "VirtualDJ Database v6.xml" "VirtualDJ Database v6 BACKUP.xml" /y /v
the first time you run it, it will ask if it is file or directory, choose file.
Now create a shortcut on your desktop to run the VDJ database copy.bat or even better create a scheduled task that will run every day to make an automatic copy of the file.
regards,
freek

On the root of all your drives is a file called VirtualDJ Local Database v6.. this file stores all the data for the songs that you have used in VDJ... all the cue points, bpms, CbGs...keys, title change, location for your songs... etc...
In effect all these things will reappear each time you open vdj...also should be kept in case you reformat your computer.. etc.. or load VDJ to another machine... the same will happen. No need to set anything over.
You should ensure that you keep make a backup copy as often as you can especially after making some major adjustments inside VDJ.. and in case of a possible corruption like the one i just had.... Of course storing it in different locations... machines... is an added security.
Really liked the suggestion of saving on each drive in a separate folder (database backup E drive) and just continue to copy and paste to it over time...
