Topic: VDJ V6 and the Denon HC4500

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I've so far refrained from installing the new version of VDJ because firstly I was waiting to hear of any problems with it before using it at a gig and also because of hearing of mapping problems. It seems that all users now have to setup the mapping themselves and the previous mappers such as the Boggis one, no longer work? which is another reason I haven't installed it, as I simply don't have the time to be setting up the mapping.
I'm using the Denon 4500; is it likely that there will be a new mapper created for the 4500?

I've read some of the threads from some of the developers expressing how easy it is to do the mapping and then got a headache reading their descriptions of how to go about it! Has anyone created a video showing this? The way my mind works I'd have a far greater chance of getting a grip on this if I can watch someone showing how it it's done, rather than just reading about it, which tends to send me to sleep!

and can I just confirm one other thing; am I right in the perception I have that the boggis mapper I currently use with the 4500 on V5* will not work at all with V6? or is it just that some of the actions won't work?

Thanks.

The JPB mapper will not work on V6. The way controllers are handled in the new version is completely different.

I believe JPB (may) be working on a new version, but it has to be written from scratch and tested, therefore if you enjoy the advanced features the mapper offers then it's better to stick with 5.2 for the moment.

How long it will take is anyone's guess, but I would rather have my controller working perfectly as that is more important to me than the new features in V6.

There are still a few things to be ironed out with the new release, and I guess in another couple of months we will see a new mapper and a completely bugfixed version of VDJ. I'm willing to wait!

The question is do you really use all th features of that mapper?

Most functions are easy to map yourself; I've been asked by some others to produce some basic mapping tutorials which I'll try and do (they've requested video format too)...

I love the way my 4500 works with the new version, but I am not sold on the new version. My CPU meter is way up over version 5 and sometimes the program will freeze or stutter. Never had that with version 5.

Hi Scott,

I probably use about 10% of it to be honest, but I've got it configured in a way that really suits the way I work.

I don't really have the time to build a map myself, so I'm just hoping JPB will put something together for V6. There isn't really anything that makes V6 better for me, so there's no point changing for the sake of it.

I'm Still with 5.2.1 and I also have the 4500....not sold on v6.0.1 yet! I'm also hoping JPB will put something together for v6.0.1 thanks!!

I wont go to another version of VDJ untill it looks like 5.2.1 where my CPU sits around 5 to max 10% average and the program does not stutter and freeze.

My system sits at less than 2% when playing audio, less than 5% when playing video and less than 30% with Sonique running. The program does not stutter or freeze for me.

That would suggest it is either something you are doing or your system.

Are you running VDJ resized or maximised at all?
