First of all...
What version of VDJ are you running and list your computer specs for us.

Which skin are you using?
What resolution is your screen?
Are you using a skin that is the same as your resolution?

To answer you question of 'What is happening?'

When you launch VDJ the software will adjust your resolution to the width x height of the skin so that the application is using the entire screen. If the screen has a Maximize button click on it and the screen will go back to your original resolution. And the skin should be able to float in that resolution. If you shutdown VDJ, and reopen it you SHOULD NOT have to go through this exercise - unless you change skins; sometimes.

hope this helps.

2.01 is a very outdated version. (no longer supported) You should get the latest trial version. Then maybe your problems will clear up.

It's like walking into a store, after you shoplifted a DVD player, and ask for instructions on how it works. Once you get those instructions you smile and say thanks...

I give up...
