Hey,

I have a DJIO that came with total control.

I use the total control for smaller shows. When i use the DJ IO without my total control (ill be using my ICDX)
should i power the DJIO using power and not just USB?

It didnt come with a power adapter, but the one that came with total control is the same voltage and it fits.

Is this reccomended? Or am i just wasting an extra plug?

I have always used a power supply with my DJIO. It means that the USB is then just used for data transfer rather than power too.

That said - i havent tried it without so it may not make any difference at all.
 
i think it would depending on the enviroment to save power consumption.

when im using my ICDX' im using 3 of the 4 usb ports on my laptop

by using the power im not puttnig so much stress on the laptop for power
