Ryt guys looking for ur thoughts on this. I've been messing about with the Trial version of VDJ. And really like it. Was looking at serato etc and although i like the SL1 souncard. I'm not sure it's for me. Not all the Clubs and venues i play in has Cdj's. So don't really think i'd benefit from it. Was looking at the Hercules Rmx.
Looking for some advice on the pro's and cons of the Rmx if there are any. Also has anyone got some good close up quality pictures of it.
Cheers Chris

Chris, while I don't have any close up pictures, I can assure you it is a solid piece of kit. I've been using mine for over a year now and it is rock solid still. Another benefit of the RMX. It comes with an LE version of VDJ that you can upgrade to Pro for a discounted price. I strongly recommend purchasing the RMX.

what like is the soundcard in it? and whats the difference between the le software and pro version?

I also have been using the RMX for over a year without any problems. Since it is also a full 4 in 4 out soundcard you can use it with CDJ's or vinyl time code if you ever wanted to do that.

the pics are official hercules release sales photos, what they don't show you or is ever mentioned in their sales blurbs is that not all buttons light up which was a huge disapppintment to most of us users, and there is no chance of a retro fit for them either.

I'm going to offer a different opinion of the RMX.
#1.) although they market it as such, it's not actually a mixer. if your computer crashes, you cannot play a CD through the input, or use the MIc. It's all software emulated.
#2.) while some may think the sound card sounds fine, it's really a noisy card, and compared to any good pro audio card, it's like using your on board sound. It will work, but it's nowhere near pro grade. a good sound card is more expensive than this whole unit... kinda' makes you think!
#3.) The RMX is plagued with a nasty habit of disconnecting if you make a static spark. The 2nd time this happened to me live at a club, I decided not to use it ever again. when one shock makes it freeze, you have to actually disconnect it, re-connect it, then re-boot the computer.. All the while, you cannot use your mic or CD's... Silence.... Not good!
#4.) The thu ports on the mixer are also emulated.. so the nice clean sound from your cd player has to go into the sound card of the computer, through it, and back out after being software mixed. The dynamic range is really altered. Side by side on the same Macbook, I demonstrated one instance of VDJ using the RMX, and one using an Echo indigo DJ card.. same song... the difference was night and day...
#5.) Hercules didn't give you the ability to program the buttons the way you'd like like on a higher end controller.
Overall, it's a cool unit, but I know my friend who has been using his 5 nights a week since he bought it, is on his second one now, as the first wore out after less than a year of hard use.. The disconnecting issue is a definite deal breaker for me, and if you use the RMX as your main mixer and sound card. If you use it as just just a controller ONLY (which I would recommend for reliability's sake) You should be cool. The sound output is not all that hot, and the quality is marginal.
It's got potential to be a sweet unit, but it's going to need several improvements.
#1.) Actual on board hardware mixer
#2.) Better sound card quality
#3.) Configurable buttons
#4.) Power supply to end reliance on the USB bus, and also combat against the disconnecting problem.
Just some things to consider.

As Steve says, Hercules products are more for bedroom mixers and such. If you are doing serious club gigs then better to stick to Denon etc.
I have the DN-HC4500 and at the moment it's the best rack mount controller out there!

I have the DN-HC4500 and at the moment it's the best rack mount controller out there!
I work in 4 different venues a week Rack mountable isn't ideal. Really need to rethink what i'm looking at. The above comments has made me sit up and think. I need something hardwearing and durable with good quality sound level.
So will start looking again.
Cheers Guys

@tayla: Thanks for the clarification on source of pics!
@Steve Lynch: Good & interesting post. Point #3 (static hangs!) is worrying. Haven't experienced it myself, but worrying none-the-less.
At this point I'm more interested in the sound quality of the Rmx. I assume (read: not certain!!) that the deterioration you found with playing CD's through the Rmx .vs. an external sound card would also apply to MP3's? (I.e. if the Rmx soundcard is the limiting factor, then it will be a limiting factor regardless of the music source).
From what you're saying, an Rmx user would be better off bypassing the Rmx internal sound card altogether and using an external quality card?!
I'm just wondering if anyone else has done similiar comparisons (which cards?) and has any opinions on this?
Thanks,
Martin.....starting to think I should have gone with a HC4500 :-(

Guys thanks to you all for the comments and pictures most appreciated really is but i have one more question
One of the lads i know is using Traktor and it comes with something similar to the Rmx but has a seperate stand alone soundcard and could also run vinyl off it. Think that's the way for me lads but i love the VDJ software. Will the traktor system work with VDJ.
Cheers Chris
