Topic: VDJ Vista Hercules Mk2

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I am very close to purchasing a Hercules Mk2 console but am stalling because I am not sure if it will work with Vista.

Please could someone advise if it will be compatible and whether I need to install some drivers etc? - if so where are these located and how can i download them?

Cheers in advance

The Hercules consoles are compatible with both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Vista - and there is also Windows 7 support. Drivers are supplied on the CD which comes with the console or you may download them from their website:

If you buy the console be sure to register it to your profile, this will entitle you to a discount should you wish to upgrade to the pro version in the future.

I have used the Hercules DJ COntrol MP3 (the low end version of the MK2) on Vista 32 bit and I am now using it on Windows 7 (RC 7100) 64 bit. I have not seen any issues. Hope that info helps.

Hi James,

How do you like your Hercules DJ Control MP3 controller?. I'm thinking about buying a budget DJ controller and I almost hit "Buy" for the M-Audio X-session Pro ($99), but then I started digging a bit more on the Web and found out about the Hercules DJ Control MP3 which has jog dials and more controls, and can be found on the Web for around the same amount of money as the X-session. Is the Control MP3 fine?, works as expected for a budget controller, have lag or any other stuff I should know before putting my money on it. The X-session has very good reviews about quality and reliability, but has fewer controls than the Control MP3 and no jog dials.

I'd need some feedback about this controller because for some weird reason there's no real reviews about it available on the Web. I was able to find only reviews about the larger, more expensive Hercules controllers (the RMX and the Steel). It's even hard to find real reviews about the older sister of the DJ Control MP3 (the MK2).

I already own a good external USB sound card (the Maya 44 USB) so that's why I'm just interested in a budget, soundcard-less DJ Controller.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Quanta.

I like my controller. I'm a software developer now, and haven't spun live in 20+ years. But I enjoy the control and it's solid-ish. I wouldn't take it to a club but I wouldn't laugh if someone had one at a club either. It simply allows me to us the application (VDJ) much easier and enjoy the process of mixing.

The response has been fine, no issues. I haven't changed the button mapping in years, I'm happy with the controls out of the box, but it can be tweaked. I have a decent sound card, but after so many years in clubs, and playing drums it's hard to be sure if my hearing is as good as... hell, I know it's not as good as it was.

So, is good? Yes. Does it work acceptably? Yes. Response? Good. For the price, I think it can't be beat.

Feel free to ask something more specific.

Peace,
James
