a professional computer geek told me that quad is good for cs4 and 3d studio max.
he said that for dj use. it's better to use duo.
is this true?
response from vdj developers very appreciated.

Nothing wrong with using a quad core at all for DJ'ing purposes - the more power the better I say. Of course it does depend on the clock speed of each core as to which is better. Another point worth noting is that you get one DPC queue per processor.

For DJ use. Duo Is enough. there are DJs using still using single centrino processors and they work fine. For games using high graphics, use quad.

If you can afford a laptop with a quad, go for it but a duo will work, it's all about IRQ assignments. If you know how to undo the ACPI mode in your laptop, and assign different IRQ's for each USB port(good if you are using vinyl control and midi for effects at the same time) and sound card. Also turn off the wi-fi and on board LAN during performance.

so which is better for mixing audio?
and which is better for mixing videos?
these are my options: quad 2.53 or duo 2.93

I don't think you'll really notice a difference in truth.
I've got a system that is a 2.40GHz quad, and a system that is 2.80GHz duo. Neither ever get really stressed out.

I would say if you can afford the Quad, go for it. I would rather have too much power than not enough. And who knows what VDJ version 6 will bring. Build for the future, not the present I say.

I really don't know if XP supports quad core, unless there is an XP driver out there. I prefer the VDJ performance with XP...hate vista. I think the duo will work depending how much hardware and process you will operate simultaneously.

Microsoft software licensing looks at physical CPUs, not number of cores.
XP Home supports 1 physical processor so you could run one quad core CPU.
XP Professional supports 2 physical processors so you could run dual quad core CPUs.

Q. How does this licensing policy affect products such as Microsoft Windows XP Professional?
A. Microsoft Windows XP Professional and Microsoft Windows XP Home are not affected by this policy as they are licensed per installation and not per processor. Windows XP Professional can support up to two processors regardless of the number of cores on the processor. Microsoft Windows XP Home supports one processor.

My opinion is that it doesn't matter what we think but if the system works!!! Obviously its going to work audio but as I remember you use vids so thats the real test / question. Test the hell out of your video card. I got my laptop for 600.00 yr for doing vid edits but turned out it works flawless with vids, audio, TC and everything in between...Bottom line is that you have to use it, make sure it works for your needs.

yeah quad is awesome for anything whether it be dj.ing gaming or just to have a super fast computer. but it really doesnt matter what system you have a single core CPU with a 1ghz processor will run VDJ quite amply al long as you dont have it stuffed up with junk and you use an external hdd to store your music.
what im saying is choose what ever you want, there is no good of bad and no right or wrong, as long as it does what you want it too. in my personal opinion and if it were me trying to decide i would go for the quad in an instant. this is purely because it will be future proof and will last another 4-6 years before being out dated. i have used VDJ on both my laptops and recieved pretty much the same performance from both the single and the dual core systems.
just be sure to choose carefully and choose wisely, weigh up all the differences and all the good and bad points of each system before you jump in and buy the one you regret later on.

If you want a work horse laptop look at the dell precision series, They already outfitted with an Nvidia quadro 1G video card. Yes it's expensive but it is a purpose built system and I think it's worth a look if you are planning to use it as your main gear. I do a lot of photography and graphics. I have been using one since last year and it has not failed me yet. I have a separate HD for my graphics and another one for Dj programs, I just switch them over. I still have a best buy special toshiba satellite which works flawlessly with VDJ, but I use it just to do paperwork and internet surfing.

quad core if your planing to do vid edits
also i find that the key adjust works better with a quad core .
i have a 3.6 dull core that i overclocked from 3 ghz its ok but im trading it in for a 4. 5 ghz quad core
im going to love this. away
just go quad core u will be happier .
a 2.4 ghz quad core will kill a 3.0 ghz Duo core
just check out bench marks and u will see
