Is it possible to make money on SMS like charging micropayments on incoming massages?
me personally i wouldn't want to go down that route, for me that will only limit your public participation in the service, if you want to raise extra revenue you should be looking at sponsorship deals with the venue your at or their suppliers then there's other local businesses as in restaurants, taxi companies etc, even nightclubs and late bars if your doing mobile work you could get them to sponsor your show depending on your negotiation skills.

SBDJ, are you talking about a phone connected to the computer such as a Windows Mobile phone connected via ActiveSync (XP) & Sync/Windows Mobile Device Center (Vista)? If so, that would be sweet!!

I don't know about windows mobile phones to be honest, I guess it depends it they support the GSM AT command set or not. I have got a TyTn 2 somewhere, so I'll fire it up and test it out. I've got a Blackberry I can test with too - although at last check it didn't support it at all. I do have a Blackberry development signing key so could code an implementation for those at a later date.
Most phones that can be used as modems - most decent Nokias and SE's for example - can be used.

Sounds to me that even if you haven't got a compatible phone at the moment it will be worth while buying a new one (Pay as you Go) to use with this plugin - that'll be my plan. Would want to give my personal number out to the mases anyway =)

I have an HTC Touch Pro and a Verizon XV6800 (which I think the HTC name is Mogul or TyTn), both can be used as a tethered (USB) or bluetooth modem. I actually use my XV6800 as a modem for my lappy in non-hotspot areas. Both are version WM 6.1. I would be indebted to you if you can find a way to support our WM phones! BTW, my carrier is Verizon over here in the states, and Verizon is not GSM, it is CDMA.
Thanks.

So Scott, is v2 out yet?

Not yet; it's a complete rewrite from the ground up - new GUI, lots of new features and so on. It's coming along nicely though :)

quick question, what are some of the key features to look forward to, esc in comparison to solutions like iWall?

Take the Scrolltext available now and add:
* Complete rewrite of all existing code
* New easier-to-use GUI
* More macros allowing for dynamic replacement of words
* Inbound SMS support
* Easy identification of manual/SMS messages
* Enabling/Disabling messages
* Reordering messages
* Editing messages
* Unicode support
* Alpha support for background box
* Image support for background box
* Different appearance methods for background box
* Extra Delay can be added after all messages have been displayed
* Per message settings for almost every setting
This is pretty much the stage it is at now. I think all the features are implemented, but there is still a lot of tidying up and testing to do.

you need to set up your mobile to use a Com: port. like Com 1: on older PCs.
however, if you have bluetooth on your PC, its a little more easyer to make the connection through that.
i dont think SBDJ has gone down the whole activesync route as that is Microsoft terratory.
This uses the mobile phone in direct mode, hence the need to set up a Com: port.
I'll dig around for more info on this, but the short of it is, you just need bluettooth and some simple instructions, which i could help with once the plugin is released.

Thanks. That's not a problem since bluetooth is the method I use with Sync (ActiveSync for XP) on my Vista lappy. I would love to set this up. Let me know!
Thanks

I setup with an Air Card from Verizon Wireless in case I need to download a song I might not have. Will 2.0 work with that? It does have it's own phone number. I also have a Verizon Blackberry, so I suppose I could use it. Either way, it sounds really cool, can't wait to check it out!

What about receiving SMS messages with Skype? Could that be implemented in version 3.0? I think it would be cheaper then using a phone(maybe).

SBDJ,
Can you tell us when the first version will be released?
You told me a month ago that it would be ready two weeks.
Can imagine that you can't give me an exact date but it would be nice to know a real end date.

I know I did, and I apologise - it's the reason I never usually announce when I'll have a plugin available. You can see why the VDJ devs don't want to publically announce their release dates either.
I had a working ready-to-roll version about a month ago, but I decided it really needed some tidying up and some code cleaning as it had become quite messy.
I set about a complete from-the-ground-up rewrite with a new GUI and some new features thrown in too. That rewrite is still underway, although it's almost feature complete. One big thing I've added is that you can specify pretty much any setting on a per-message basis.
I haven't yet decided whether to license a 3rd party SMS component for maximum compatibility with phones, or to use my own class library. I've got a basic library written that works, but it still needs quite a bit of work.
In essence, it's still going to be a while. I'll probably release a beta version in the near future, but it won't be a public release.

Thanks for your answer SBDJ,
It's clear to me now why it cost more time then you aspected.
We'll wait and see.
At this moment I have my Nokia connected with my laptop and with the Nokia Suite I can copy/paste my messages into the scroll text.
For now it works great so far.
