Topic: Zipping Mp3 files

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I am wondering if there is a loss of quality of sound. I saw a dj in another city have his entire mp3 library zipped by genre. Also, would it truly save hdd space .

Just a simple inquiry

No loss in quality, but a loss of system performance. No worthwhile decrease in disk usage either.

Zipping MP3 files does not make sense at all, since they are already compressed. The file size will decrease mere few percentages at best.

This is the same point as compressing vids below the natural resolution. Space is not an issue any longer. What's the average size for MP3= 5-8 mb... what is that about 40 - 45 thousands songs on an average 500g drive
