Topic: karaoke how-to

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I am a wedding dj, and since going digital and using VDJ I have not had any call for karaoke. Now I do. One song.

I bought the karaoke song and it's in a zip file. In the zip file are two files, a cdg and an mp3. How do I make VDJ "see" this file so that it will play?

I thought I had it. Here's what I THINK I did:

1. put zip file on flash drive
2. plugged flash drive into laptop
3. using VDJ browser, navigated to the flash drive -- saw nothing
4. went back to the flash drive and unzipped the file -- it created a new folder with the artist-title of the song
5. went back to the VDJ browser, closed the flash drive and re-opened it.
6. new folder showed up, clicked on it
7. my song appeared in the song list for that folder
8. played the song -- all was fine
9. moved the cdg and mp3 to the c:\drive into a new folder called karaoke
10.using the VDJ browser, navigated to that folder -- nothing
11.removed everything from both c:\ drive and flash drive
12.put zip file on flash drive
13.repeated 2 through 6 -- still can't see the song in the song list

Any idea what I am doing wrong?

Thanks

VDJ should be able to read the ZIP file depending on how it has been compressed. I would suggest unzipping and rezipping it using a standard compression. This will make life slightly easier instead of having to track down two files.

Just make sure that you search criteria includes Karaoke and you should be fine - if you do move the zip file around - remember where you put it and add it to the search DB.

Any more problems - post back. =)

A couple of questions (because re-zipping it, didn't help):

How do I set the search criteria to include karaoke?

What file does VDJ need -- the zip, or the cdg and the mp3, or all 3?

Thanks!

Need to modify -- I got the search criteria to include karaoke!
Now I guess I just need to know what files it needs and where. Maybe I'll get that figured out, too.

Thanks, again

Modifying again!
I got it. Apparently it just needs the zip file.

Much appreciate you pointing me in the right direction.
