Topic: Cerwin Vega! BlownSub or Crossover?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I am receiving a set of 15" dual sub 700 watt cerwin vega's from my school but, they have a problem, one time a year or two ago some kid decided to push a random button on the mixer, and it blew out a sub, or thats what they think. but slowly over the years they have been degrading in the sound quality in the other 3 subs, do you guys think its a blown sub? or crossover? and could you recommend sites to get them fixed?

The drivers.. (speakers) can loose flexibility over time - or crack etc..

You'd have to remove the speaker to physically check it, Look for cracks in the paper cone or along the flex joint of the cone.

Also you might have an electronic problem with your Subs.

Are they Active - built in amp - or passive - need a amp rack to plug into the speaker?
If passive - do they have a built in crossover?

If they are active the amp module will have the digital amp and crossover built into it. Because they are Cerwin-vega you can buy the amp module from the parts department from the manufacturer. Not all Manufacturers make the amp module available for sale. (Yorkville sound does not)

Bad sound can be a pain in the butt to trouble shoot. Which is why a lot of DJ's have moved to mostly active speakers.

Something goes wrong - replace the amp module and your back in business.

Good luck.
