i copied my external hd onto my mackbook but searching song titles they came up but wouldnt play.but when i went into the actual file they played.why is this.also is it better leaving songs on external hd

Did you remember to control click on the folder that contains your music and select "Add to search DB"?
 
Generally, if you can fit your files on your internal hard drive, it could improve performance and reliability.

In addition to adding them to the search DB, make sure that you have full read/write permissions for your external HD files.

thanks guys.i did add them to sdb.somleave them on my internal drive is the best
