Topic: Santa Claus ain't available!!! - Page: 1

This part of topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information

Had the best belly laugh for ages yesterday.

Local youngun DJ been doing a few various gigs around my hometown for the last few months. AFAIK he's using a pirate version of VDJ and mp3s downloaded from Limewire. He has just secured a residency at one of my old residencies in a sportsbar. He rang me up yesterday and asked how much would I charge to put tunes on his laptop as he couldn't get hold of the guy who usually does it. Said I don't have time to do anything like that for other people, can't he just copy from the CDs to his laptop? Said it takes too long and it would be quicker and easier to copy from laptop to laptop. I asked if he meant he had a new laptop and was copying from his old one. He said "No he wanted me to copy all my tunes and playlists from my laptop to his!!! I said "Do I look like f*****g Santa Claus???!!!" :-)

On a serious note this really boils my p*ss. I am a professional totally relying on DJing for a living. I own VTT (Virtual TurnTables), PCDJ Blue and Red (old versions), PCDJ FX, PCDJ VJ, Abelton Live 6, Traktor Studio 3, Virtual DJ 5.2.1 and I buy all my Videos from Promo Only and tunes from Beatport etc. This guy doesn't buy anything and then has the cheek to ask me for a copy of my last 10 years of work, tunes, playlists, etc.!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

damn, thought i was gonna get away with that scam, have to try someone else then.... lol

younguns they ain't got no shame these days, either that and i think this is the real case they're all dicks...

but how in the crap do they manage to secure work, has me scratching my head.

You should of asked him, if he wanted your DJ name and business aswell mate, lol

you know i went to a mobile company awhile back to get a job and in their office they were running every peertopeer client to download songs. I walked out on the interview when i asked if they had a subscription to any download spots and they said no...... I used to buy on album a week. today it is so easy to take 50 to 100 a week/month ect to build up your songs. for those watching this thread here is a quick way to get started and a decent song list.... check the billboard top 100. the down load them from itunes ect. thats 100 songs an average crowd at a club would like..... you can to this year by year......

kinda in a similar situation.. but with my brother (he is the dj brother who guided me when i just started doing video mixing)

He is one of the resident djs for a new hotel in the island.....Five star accomodation etc.
The hotel has setup the club that facilitates video mixing via virtual dj.. .as their main software.. equipped with timecode and also a DMC2 i think.. large flat screen monitors, projectors the works

Brother calls me up asking if he can get vids to play at work.... including my library of remixes

I told him straight up that he should tell his company to go order vids through a service and recommended a few including Promo and Smashvidz. (after explaining to him the time and money involved in acquiring my videos - of course he knows this already). I think my brother here wants to keep the upper hand in having the vids instead of the company.. kinda gives him a foot hold of a sort. This would make him separate from the other djs too.

Bottom line is the hotel can afford to purchase these videos.... Why spend millions of dollars to setup a club and no plan of your music vid source. Finally I recommended coming in and giving a demo of video mixing to them. Let see how that works out

Only four persons including me I know of in the island that actually do video mixing... and only two of us have a large library of diverse genre of videos. For now i would love to keep it that way.

if he's using a crack version have a word with the bar manager and let him know the music could crap on him anytime, bet he will be appreciative... then offer to put your own guys in his place.

well .......trying to rip YOU off (as in who you are , and what you do ) is the sincerest form of flattery ..........

i have one kid seems to call every 6 months or so wants to partner up with me and join my mobil biz .....

there is a segment out there that has convinced itself that the expensive clothes and the sideways hat are gonna somehow cover a plethora of

missing skills , equipment , and software .......

in the technical jargon , i call them lazy , limp wristed twinks , castrati .........

now don't hold back chuck... lol

was it something i said ???

hehe

When I worked at the Bar last year I had a guy (one of the other DJ's) want to come over to my house and use my Internet connection to D/L music on peer2peer. Then he wanted to copy my Custom cd's, Then he saw my growing music video collection (which I'm proud to say has hit the 2000+ mark)

He's not the only one either - I've had bar managers ask to copy my hard drive for music videos. For that one I told him he can have my music video library - at $3.00/video or 6000.00; then I mentioned that a subscription to Promo Only videos is currently 300/year. I haven't had him ask again for quite some time.

I'm of the same mind as soulman

I put in the time, effort, and money to build a mp3 library and Video library.

Why the hell should I give it away to someone who's going to compete with my, and possibly try to steal either a gig or job?

Charge less as they do not have to buy anything? Makes you mad!

damn right it does Alf, more often than not they don't even know how to scratch there own arses... no pun intended.what i mean is the managers are happy cos they are getting a guy on the cheap and the poor punter has to put up with shit because there is no place else to go...

and the sad thing is i have had a "professional" radio personality ask to copy our entire database of songs, playlists, and even our lighting software. and as much as i hate using the Elation software...

i don't think we're in kansas anymore toto, and Glinda the good witch is on permanant vacation.

wow , Marcel that's a lotta video ......

i only started getting half serious about my personal and DJ vid collections in the last year , really the last 6 months .....

i'm 300+ ......

since i started using filter folders and virtual folders i have gone thru my music and vid collection and eliminated all the old duplicate trax , so that means i know that the database count is correct , so i have approx 17000 discrete trax mostly mp3 ..... since Amazon downloads cost me 99 cents , anyone is welcome to it for $18,700 which is my cost plus 10% ......

strangely , so far no takers ???

hang on chuck, let me write you a

Promo Only got an early christmas gift from me when I ordered all the back issues of Hot Video DVD's from 2000-2006 just before Christmas.

I just have to get the back issues from 2007/2008 and then my regular subscription will take over from there.

i used to think it was a big deal that i had the old platinum series ......lol

grab check , jump in car , burn rubber on way to bank ......

lol.. he said rubber

i'm just glad the boss pays for everything at work -

their point of view is that i cant walk out with the music in the middle of the night if they own it.

my point of view is i don't want to carry a couple of hundred pounds of cd boxes to a truck i don't have to carry it all in.
