Hi, im having trouble configuring the sound outputs on Virtual DJ - I want to listen to what im beatmixing through headphones, and the 'master' through the speakers. From what i've already seen in this forum I can tell that this is a very frequently asked question, but i've tried everything and it still hasn't worked!
My soundcard is Realtek High Definition which, as my laptop is new, I am sure is capable of doing this. The only problem that I can see is that my laptop (Sony VAIO NS10L/S) only has 2 audio outputs/sockets, one for headphones and one for microphones . Do I need to configure these settings and if so how?!
Thanks in advance...and happy christmas to all!!!

buy the Numark Dj IO from amazon.com then you will be able to hear headphones separate from the speakers

You need to have a soundcard that has at least two stereo outputs to properly do what you need to do.

Some sound cards allow you to re-configure the jack sockets. See if the control panel for the onboard card allows this. If so you maybe in luck.
However, from experience I would say that you would never want to use the headphone jack, these do not output at pre-amp level as need to be amplified - even slightly to allow for headphone connection - they are not designed to be connected to a mixer or amp.
An external sound card is a far better option and will be designed to work the way you want it to...

i am using Numark VV 5.2.1. to use my headphones i have a cable that goes from the monitor out on the numark sound card to the mic in on my laptop, then just plug my headphones into the headphone port on my laptop. This works a treat, better than when i tried to use the numark io. hop this helps

For systems with only one Stereo output, you can modify a Y-cable (stereo headphone splitter)... rewire the cable so your left channel feeds one side of the splitter for your main speakers and the right channel feeds the other side for your headphones.
In the VDJ Sound Setup... set Output to headphones... set Sound Card(s) to Mono Separated.
Cost: Roughly $5 and 30 minutes or less work.

Result from SamBecket's solution: mono sound through speakers and through headphones, which is a pity!
Isn't there another solution, e.g. using an external soundcard and the internal soundcard separately? The configuration screen suggests that that is the case but I cannot make it work with my Toshiba laptop, a Behringer FCA202 and a Plantronics USB DSP v4. Perhaps someone more expert can help me out?
Thanks,
Klaas

I need to know how to fix the problem of sound coming from my laptop into my Pioneer DJM300 mixer and going out to my loudspeakers. I have the RCA red and white cables from my Toshiba laptop plugged into my line in on my mixer and when i have the right channel playing, i only get sound out of the right speaker and vice versa, but not both speakers at the same time. in my headphones i hear the channels separated left/right. Help?

Can you tell us in some detail how it's done? Thanks!

made this nearly eighteen month back so is a bit crappy but hope you can understand it...
basically if you cant follow the clip
go to config
soundsetup
outputs > external mixer
soundcards > mono seperated
output channels give you white lead/left channel red lead/right channel to your mixer
you will have to use a y splitter for each channel to get dual inputs into mixing desk
which of course will only give you mono sound output
if you have a external sound card with one stereo output channel use this as master out to your mixer and use the headphone socket from your lappy as headphone output to a channel on the mixer,
if your not sure on the configuration on these outputs let me know, but you should be able to work it out on the soundcards drop down window.
