Topic: CAN'T SEEM to SHAKE BAD LUCK AT THIS VENUE

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

In september I travelled nearly 60 miles to a gig
got in a car accident... cost me $200,000 Ja just to fix
Gig was only worth $25,000 Ja

travelled to same venue again.. last Friday,, no car accident thank God
After playing my sets I left the party rocking... I went to my car for a quick little snooze

Came back the party was still rockin...
Friend helped to pack up my system

I had another gig the next day so i did not unpack..
Proceeded to the next gig... when i was setting up.. I noticed what looked like dried beverage... on my monitor

After booting up i noticed that my LCD was cracked in two places.... parts of my screen not showing

Now i have to buy another screen... for at least $20,000 Ja now.. not worth the trip at all

At least it was not the car again..smile... and at least i got three good prospects for other gigs there

For me its not a venue. Its one song.

When I worked at a local radio station, 20 years ago, we were still using LPs and 45s for all of our music. The original LP version of Don Mclean American Pie is over 8 minutes long. I was working a double shift one day and decided to run to the gas station at the end of the drive and grab a drink and snack. I hop in my car (the driveway was @ 1/2 mile long) and make my dash to the station. The girl working behind the counter was really cute. so I looked at my watch, "five minutes...sweet time to chat her up a bit" I thought to myself. Keeping an eye on my watch at the two minute mark I hop back in my car for the dash to the studio, congratulating myself on getting her digits. What do I hear when I start the car? American Pie, skipping from a scratch on the LP..."bye bye zzzziiippp Bye Bye zzzziiipppp Bye bye" ect. ect. It had been skipping for over five minutes! The program director used my ass as an ashtray for months over that one.

Fast forward 15 years later, same song on CD throw it in a player. Player shits out on me as soon as I hit play. In front of 300 people at a cruise night.

Fast forward two years ago. I throw the American Pie MP3 onto one deck of CUE. Someone trips on the power cord and unplugs my entire system.

I'll never play that song again, ever, under any circumstances.........I feel your pain my DJ brother....

Was that a Chevy you took to the Levy Terry?

now that is a funny one.. hope i never have to play American Pie.. except it is the movie... now that is worth the risk

Don't play Lambada also... even if it's remix. Hard rain falls on me when i play it. Imagine when its held outdoor.

i forgot to tell you guys...

My system also refused to come up for nearly an hour....
Luckily i had arrived pretty early
nothing on the screen.. no beep.. just nothing

so i checked the memory.. still nothing.....
So i checked the video card... nothing

Decided that the problem must be the memory or the vid card
took me a while but i got me a pencil with rubber

Used it to rub off the memory tips.. and also.. the video card tips

What do you know.. darn machine was up and running...
I wonder what happened?

It's better to use ordinary printer paper for rubbing contacts ;)
You should pay attention of temperature difference if you are in cold area, if units are cold you should wait at least half an hour.

thanks for the tip mon

Jamaica???
Cold??

Check your boot setting order Wiz.
Any drive noise you notice?

I have an unlucky song....

Familiar with Electric 6's "Danger High Voltage"? It was popular in the charts a few years back, and I was regularly requested for it.

On three consecutive occasions when I played it, we had to evacuate the venue - once for a fire alarm, and twice, FOR A POWER CUT. Oooh, the irony.

I can take a hint. I don't play that song any more.

not cold here mon

Checked my boot order nothing off there
No noise came up at all
Just wondering if it was the journey..probably shaking up a things

Remember when my machine refuse to come up for two weeks.. strange enough it was the same venue i had just come from too
That must have been how i was sure of what the problem was

I'm sorry to hear u bad luck mon. I hope it will bypass soon n it be a better day for u when u visit that venue again. Good luck.

Regards;)
