I was at a bar in manhattan this weekend and the dj was using all vinyl and an ipod on the side... I saw him come walking in and he had a coffin about 6ft long and it seemed pretty heavy the way he was carrying it...I just don't get why dj's still like using vinyl. I know it goes back to the roots of dj'ing but to me it just seems like a lot of extra hassle. I bought a turntable my 2nd year of dj'ing and used it maybe once, heavy, bulky and big and vinyl is too hard to come by so i sold it on ebay...What does everyone else think?... I now carry my laptop and a fairly compact roadrunner case with my mixer and backup dual cd players just in case the laptop craps out on me...

I started out with the old 7" & 12" stuff back in the 70s and if you think that's a pleasure lugging that amount of plastic about you want to think again, i see some kids nowadays with a satchel slung over their shoulder and that's it, how in the hell are they going to entertain people with music that the customer wants to hear with just that amount. Then along came Cd's and i quickly realised how much weight i could loose and increase the quality of sound coming out of those boxes, so quickly made the switch to Cd's and also started doing karaoke so now i was carrying two sets of music, lol. Along the way i got the squawks of your not a real DJ from all the lemmings, I didn't care a rats arse I was the one working seven nights a week, they be lucky if they were working two and still moving that shit about, what a bunch of numb nuts.
Then about five years ago still shifting a lot of weight with those Cd's i decided enough is enough and got a laptop, my back has loved me ever since, the management and punters love it, I can bring up a tune in seconds and more often than not it has the video to it, there's shout outs on the screens, drink specials, managers love the clip bank and not forgetting all the other stuff that is achievable with VDJ. If anyone try's to put you down because you are not using vinyl just laugh in their face and ask them what can it do other than spin round a table and enjoy your belly laugh...
