The only problem...

American Audio SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

As an American who is into audio, I wish they would change their name.

American Audio is an embarrassment to American innovation and technology.

A couple nice looking pieces of hardware from A.A. now. Hopefully they measure up to the competition. I remember the dual CD player they came out with a few years back that was supposed to be better than the CMX-3000, but it didn't come close after one got their hands on it. Hopefully these meet standards like Numark's new products. I'm always happy to see more company's make these products. If they're all good, it gives us more selection and drops prices. Fingers crossed...

djcity,
Do you wish to add to your statement? How do you qualify that a brand "sucks" when there are 1000's of DJ's who use AA products daily who don't have any issues.

I'm from the other part of the world of what you're in right now but i do observed that in my country lots of americans are buying and using AA products. Not once but more often when i pay visit to the AA dealer i often see americanos buying AA's. Wonder if they're patronizing after american name products or maybe because of the price being put on it or maybe that to include the quality also?

I work as the repair engineer in a DJ shop, and we sell quite a lot of American Audio/American DJ stuff. So far to my knowledge, we haven't had ONE come back with a fault so far. Compare that to the amount of Numark/Pioneer/Denon/Citronic stuff I've repaired in the last month or so, and I think it says something for AA's build quality.

it has a cool feature that allows you to play two tracks seamlessly with only one cd player..... not sure if you can actually mix it in or is it is just a play feature

Let me clarify my previous comment.

I think American Audio sucks. Me, DJ CITY. If that offends anyone or hurts your feelings, you need to go get a band aid or something. Me and EVERYONE I know that has purchased AA has NOT BEEN HAPPY with their purchase.

I used to work at Guitar Ctr. We used to have HUGE deals on AA products because the products just would not move off the shelves. When they did move off the shelf, about a week or 2 later, They came back.

Again... IN MY PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL OPINION...AA sucks.

I have nothing against the company. I would love to see quality come out of the AA camp. I also have nothing against Behringer or Gemini but I have the same opinion about them. Every company (Well just about every company) puts out a quality product. Most companies also have their gutter products too. AA is not an exception. I am sure that AA does have good equipment. I just have yet to come across it.

Gemini used to make great mixers way back in the day.
Behringer has really come up in their quality as of late and have made some good gear.
American Audio.......Lets hope that they are on the come up too.

Until I see a quality piece of gear from them, I will hold fast to my feelings about American Audio.

Salespeople at Guitar Ctr steer people away from AA
Salespeople at Musicians Friend steer people away from AA
Salespeople at PSSL steer people away from AA

This is because they want repeat business and want their customers to be happy and satisfied with their purchase. No retailer likes returns.
This is from the mouths of salespeople at the above mentioned retailers.

I'm not making this stuff up.

I really hope that AA has made a quality product that can stand the test of time and use and travel. That would really be nice.

Well I can say that all people who work at GC don't know a damn thing about anything DJ related because our local store has a couple of Guitarists, who say "yeah it can do that wiki-wiki thing". But it doesn't mean all GC employees are retarted (although I keep running into them). j/k. I do not work for AA, but I have worked with the company on a few projects. And I have purchased quite a few products from them over the years that were rock solid performers, including but not limited too The ProScratch (The original tabletop scratching CD player) & the ProScratch 2. The QD5 series of mixers (which I can show you hundreds of posts all over the internet where people gush over the quality of the mixer. And last but certainly not least the HTD 4.5's which Skratchworx gave a top rating to, Along with hundreds of posts across the net of people recommending this deck.

I will admit AA has had some flops too, but hasn't pretty much any manufacturer of anything.
PS, I am not working on this specific piece, but I am testing the other controller, and it is a top shelf piece, It has a great build quality. I hope one day you get to give these two new pieces a try, and hopefully change your opinion of AA's products.

Steve...

I would LOVE to get my hands on one and would be ecstatic if it changed my mind about AA.

Don't get me wrong. I root for the underdog. I speak from personal experience with AA products such as mixers, CD players (dual and tabletop) and a few other things. (I can't give you models...this was like 2 or 3 years ago). I still have a dual deck CD player that is sitting in my shed because it just couldn't cut it and I got tired of returning decks and getting the next one up just to find out that it would have more features but would not work as good or as accurate as it should or as I needed it to. to many problems with tracking and too many issues with the laser reading the CD's.

I will admit, some folks at G.C. are just NOT SMART and don't know dick about DJ's or DJ equipment. Or Pro sound for that matter. I was not one of them. I was the Resident DJ and I DO know alot about Pro Gear both on the DJ side and Pro Sound side. I'm NOT a guru with software or studio gear so I left that up to the rest of the team in Pro Audio.

I would be happy if AA has really stepped their game up. The gear is inexpensive compared to other brands. I just want for AA to make "inexpensive" not "cheap" At the same time, I have seen AA dual CD decks in the booth for years at clubs that are still kicking. I have seen some in booths that the owner has left there for emergency backup because it will play, but you just can't DJ with it or something major is wrong with the unit but it will still play a CD.

I respect you and your views and the AA company even though it may not sound like it. I have my opinion based on personal experience, friends and co-workers experience, club owners experience and the advice of sales associates from N.Y.C. to Cali.

If AA needs a crash test dummy (product tester) would be happy to oblige. As I said...I would really love to see American Audio as well as Stanton, Behringer, Gemini, Pyle, Gem Sound and all the others come up and give the heavy hitters (and heavy pricers) some real competition. I had to take Numark off that list because they have come up with their TT's, CD players, some mixers (I personally am still not a fan of Numark mixers) and of course VV and Cue along with Total Control. (I don't like the T.C. either but that's just me).

Cheers

The most interesting part of this review, as what they said:

"If you're using it standalone, the Radius 1000 can play either standard or MP3 CDs (you can also play a CD and control your software at the same time). There are nine built-in effects, too."

Aw, those poor folks at the vdj dev team... yet another controller that people will be demanding that vdj talks to natively!

DJ City,
Very nice explanation. Much better than AA Sucks. If this was one of those forums where users give rep. You would have just received +++.

Hopefully you get to try some of the newer products, and they change your mind one day. I don't get to pick Beta Testers, but as I get to know you, maybe I can put in a good word.

One of the biggest problems that I have with American Audio is that the BPM are always fluctuating. I have the American Audio CDI-300 and I love their size and weight, but I can never get the bpm to stop fluctuating, and when I'm mixing this sucks, because even though I have them on right on beat by ear, it begins to fluctuate and it throws off my mixing.

Another minor detail that I've encountered when using my cdi's, is that one of then tend to skip, but I think this is just a defect from manufacturing.

I hope that the AA Radius are much, much better than the 300's, because I would definitely buy them, although I'm also planning on getting the pioneer's 1000.

I agree with DJ Ho. I had the CDI-300's when I first started Dj'ing and the BPM counters were horrible. You could have a song perfectly pitch/beat matched in your headphones while cue'ing up the track, hit cue, press play on the 1 and they would start drifting and the BPM would fluctuate. The BPM while cue'ing up the track would read about 128BPM, but after playing, it would say 126, then 129.

I would have more confidence if the audio was consistent even if the BPM counter was off but that wasn't the case with these. I found that even though I had everything beat matched by ear while cue'ing, if I started mixing in the track, I would have to adjust the pitch and keep constantly fidgeting with the pitch control to keep them beat matched.

I understand that there will be some degree of fluctuation and you can't rely solely on BPM counters but these were horrible. I think if the BPM counters were improved in this model, it would vastly improve the quality of the product.

I also had to return my CDI-300's back to the manufacturer within 6 months of use. The CD player stopped ejecting CD's and had some electrical shortage. They did replace the player free of charge minus the shipping and it took about 2 weeks to get them back. Overall, I don't think I would ever buy another AA product again. It's worth the extra money to invest in something sturdy and reliable like Pioneer CDJ's unless you want low grade equipment.

Hey fellas i am very fresh at the whole dj scene, don't let the kick ass name throw you off ;). Anyways i was wondering what the best Cd player. In example i was indeed considering buying the Radius 3000 or perhaps the 1000 if they were up to par. Ofcourse in this forum i have noticed the disagreements between good and bad. Are there any other really decent Cd/mp3 player out there that are around the 500 dollar mark that could set me in the right direction?
