Rackmount is much more portable, and compact usually has just as many features.

Overall it depends on your personal tastes and what you feel comfortable with. The Table top stuff has some minor restrictions on portability.

Try them both and make your mind up

For me...

TABLETOP

Me three

I started with laptop. Switched to rack mount because AT THE TIME laptops where not powerful enough. Threw my back out picking up my main case with the rack mount in it. Switched back to laptop and have not looked back since. My rack mount now sits with my home theater system output to my TV and the monitor is wired to the bar at the other side of the room, that and a wireless keyboard and mouse let me entertain my guest.
Save your back, get a powerful laptop.

Heres the short end

Rackmount (assuming you mean something like http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Numark-CDN35-Dual-Rackmount-CD-Player?sku=482556&src=3WFRWXX&ZYXSEM=0&CAWELAID=190739087) is more for the 'mobile' dj. This allows you to do things such as weddings, partys, small dances, etc. The problem with a rackmount is quiet frankly, you are just playing cds for the most part

Now for tabletop (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CDJ1000 something like that) is for real mixing, beatmatching, scratching, and overall, more 'hardcore djing'.

Quiet frankly there is 2 types of djs, one that acts like a playlist and gets a party going, or one that makes complex mixs and beatmatches and such. Both have their benifits. If you want to just be a wedding dj, quiet frankly, id say dont even get a rack mount, just use a controller like the Hercules MK2 or w/e because pretty much thats all you need, a rack mount would be a waste imo with Virtual DJ. Now if you want to be a bit more hardcore, then for sure, go tabletop, if you have the money

I like both thats why I built my touchscreen system, check out my home page.

Nice, very nice Brian.

Is that a mk2 I can see buried away, lol

Shhhh yup

discobrian24, how did you make on-screen keyboard?

I'm a mobile dj.......um im going to try both for a while.........oh............and How about turntables Vs. CDJs.........or is it just what you want personally???

The Correct answer is - there is no answer.

Go to the rental store and try everything.

Purchase what your like.
