Topic: DB can't handle long filenames

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I have my files stored on a central network server (for example radio studio etc).
When adding the directories in the database I get a fatal error every time.
When looking at the files it crashes they are always the same...they have long filenames (over 255 char ??). Recovery doesn't work and VDJ needs to restarted manually.
After that only a few songs are added to the DB and I can't add the rest.
The files the DB search crashes on can be played without problems in VDJ on the players.
I would love to see this fixed, because its a pain searching thousands of files with iexplore over a LAN and adding them to VDJ manually.

this post was in feature request, but it better fits here.

Yeah i have gotten that error too. I like sorting my MP3's into categories and labels, etc and sometimes it messes up becuase of this filename limit. Please fix this and use Unicode or whatever for storing filennames.

Unicode is already used since virtual dj v2.00

Well it still aint allowing nice big long long filenames. They are longer than 255 i thinks but not too much longer, maybe theres a fixed field length used of say 300 or 400, someone shed some light on the matter please.

Time for a kick since this bug has been existing since release of VDJ....
This bug is really annoying since you have to handpick the files/folder you wish to add to the database and hope it doesn't crash, cause then you lose all the database :((
