From Yakov, creator of Mixed in Key
"Thank you for writing, I am glad to answer your questions. I've met the guy
who created MixMeister. He is great and we are both passionate about
harmonic mixing. However, we have completely different programs - our
algorithm is geared towards professional DJs, and MixMeister provides a
stable and fun laptop DJ product for beginners and mobile DJs. Our
algorithm is highly accurate (it can detect both Minor and Major keys), and
works great for professional DJs.
Check out http://www.MixedInKey.com to see what top DJs have written about
Mixed In Key and why they use it. We've also gotten 5.0/5.0 ratings in both
DJ Mag and I-DJ due to our passion to make harmonic mixing easy to use. "
I like Mixed in Key because it can tag the bpm and key right to file name if you like. Or just leave it in comments, this makes it readable in other programs such as Serato. There is also no .mxm file, which can be annoying when trying to manage folders.
Platinum notes is also a great program. It really fixed all those old messed up mp3's from the days when file size was an issue.

The freely available TonArt algorithm Mixed In Key uses is not more accurate than Mixmeister, sorry..
what matters in the end is that you use ONE of the softwares, and not both, as they analyze differently.
None of them are actually that correct to the REAL key, but if you have keys from ONE of them, you can mix harmonically as same detection for keys are used.
To use the words of the creator of Mixed In Key
Its a matter of prefference, but MixMeister is 100% FREE, and writes keys to tags, that VirtualDJ automatically reads. So my choice is MixMeister for sure
Mixed In Key have just been far better than the others to market itself. But its not the best solution out there, even if they are smart at getting DJs behind it and so on..

It's like comparing apples to apples and oranges to oranges. It's best if you use results from the same program.
Both programs are accurate, and it's just a matter of a different approach to detection

By the way, NONE of them are 100% correct, so you gotta use your ears in the end.
Here is a test done on the MixedOnBeat boards with 91 songs tested, ranged from best to worst:
rapid evolution/mix share:
58 correct (64%)
+19 compatible (85%)
14 incorrect (15%)
mixmeister 6:
52 correct (57%)
+14 compatible (73%)
25 incorrect (27%)
mixedinkey:
39 correct (43%)
+24 compatible (69%)
28 incorrect (31%)
The best solution is not Mixed In Key, but they are better at marketing themselves, and hyping. They are better than the others at that for sure ;)
I'm using the FREE MixMeister, and well pleased with that

I actually tried mixmeister to analyze a few songs on my outboard hard drive and for some reason, it turned all the files into mixmeiser files, why? Hmm, now there not recognized when i try to play them on my regular windows media player. I'm gonna stick with mixed in key till I get this sorted out.

what is happening is it's also creating the same file name with a mmx ending these can be deleted. As I mentioned earllier I like Mixed in Key better, and the key information will show up VDJ. Plus the BPM detection is far superior to VDJ and Mixmeister, noticed I said BPM dection guys.
example any 70BPM song in VDJ or Mixmeister shows up as 140.00 Mixed IN key detects it at 70BPM

Is there any way to use mixmeister and configure it so it does'nt change your files to .mxm file?
That really is annoying. MIK does not turn your music files to .mik files.. I have noticed that After analyzing files from a few years ago, I recently rescanned some songs with the newer version and got different results, Hmm.

i have found that with a few songs VDJ seems to double the BPM or in some cases halve it
But if you know your music you can manually edit the BPM's to its original speed or just lookup mixmiester and take it from there

in the latest version it does not turn your files in to a mxm file it' creates a whole new file with that extention on it (mxm) and you still have the original. If you can find version 6 of mixmeister I belive that version does not do that
Posted Fri 21 Mar 08 @ 6:48 pm
Version 6 does not do that no :)
Posted Fri 21 Mar 08 @ 6:54 pm
Thats probably it, I just downloaded there trial Version 7.1.1 yesterday. Is there a link to Ver. 6?
Posted Fri 21 Mar 08 @ 7:27 pm
Oops nevermind I see its posted at the beginning of the page. I'll check this Ver out thanks for the heads up.
Posted Fri 21 Mar 08 @ 7:31 pm
it says " this installation could not be opened"
Posted Fri 21 Mar 08 @ 7:36 pm
probably corrupted Exe (download again), or you need to remove the 7 version first
Posted Fri 21 Mar 08 @ 7:42 pm
Removed Ver 7 tried but the link is Dead, oh well...

Need help with this. I was using Mixshare to add key and Bpm calculations to files that I am using in VDJ. For some reason, even though the key information is written on the ID tag, it's not showing up in VDJ?
If I go and look at the file properties, the key shows up down below the white/field box for Key or Bpm. Not sure why this is happening, I have everything regarding ID Tags enabled.
Thanks for help if someone knows the answer - it's been a long night. I started using MixMeister Studio 7 and then noticed this posting, and well, that process didn't work. So, I perused the Mixshare site and decided to go with using that. Good stuff, but I need the info to show up on my songs in VDJ. I am sure that there's something I am not doing correctly.
Thanks!
