I've owned VDJ for about three years now, but just haven't taken the time to "get to know" the software very well. There were some definite differences between the way VDJ works and how I was accustomed to mixing with cue points, etc.
I've got a big event coming up that will incorporate music, videos, and karaoke - so I thought it was time to get to know VDJ. I've got version 5 (not sure which one) and the DAC 3.
On BPM Studio (which I've been using for > 5ys), wherever I hit PLAY in a track it sets a sort of "soft cue". Meaning that, if I hit the CUE button, it takes me back there. However, on VDJ, hitting the CUE button sets a cue point. This is the biggest hurdle I've run into. So the question is - is there some way to emulate how BPM studio works (which is exactly how all my Denon CD players have worked).
Secondly, is there a way to quickly go back to the very beginning of a track?
Alot of my music has the BPM stored in the ID3 tag, but it looked like all that info wasn't showing up tonight - am I missing something?
That's enough questions to start with - thanks in advance for your help. I'm looking forward to using VDJ more...

I am not familiar with the DAC3 because I don't use it, but I'm sure someone will have some tips, hang in there.

This can be done in the interface itself by clicking on the PLAY button while the track is playing. They call it "stutter."

Nope. Your tracks have to be scanned by VDJ for BPM. It is not read from the tag. You can do this in batches by selecting a group of tracks, right-clicking, and selecting "scan for BPM" from the list. If your tracks have pronounced beats, use the techno/house setting. This should work well. If they are more melodious, use "other music" setting for more accuracy.

Glad to help, and glad to see that you are using VDJ. The more you use it, the better you'll like it...That's what happened with me, anyway ;)

You may want to get the new mapper for the DAC 3, from the download section. It will give you many more possibilities. I have upgraded from the DAC 3, so don't remember. Pressing play while the track is playing, takes it back to where it started playing, that could be anywhere. To go back to the beginning, you will have had to start at the beginning. If you have a cue point at the beginning, say cue 1, hit cue one to go back to the beginning.
Go to config>browser>info gathering and set readID3 Tags to enable, and see what happens.

This is the normal behaviour for PLAY/CUE in VirtualDJ. As above, there is a custom mapper available for the DAC-3, but it does not allow CUE/PLAY to work in the way you require.
I am currently working on a custom mapper for the Denon HC4500 controller that will work this way by default (Just like most Denon CD players do.) In this, pressing PLAY to start the song playing will set the cue point, and pressing CUE will stop the music and take you back to the cue point. If already at the cue point, CUE will stutter.
Once the HC4500 mapper is finished, I may be able to add this code as an option to the DAC-3 mapper too.
