I have not used any of the B-52, but I have heard them in other setups and they are, in my opinion, no where near as good as the JBL, even the JRX series. I would recommend the MRX series or if you can find some used MPros, by JBL. I do have the Mpros and they are great, plus they have a second channel of the amp that can power an additional passive sub or top cabinets.
I have heard the Mackie 18's and they sound very good also. They are large though.

I use a B-52 system. The 18"sub and 10' satillites unit.
It serves my needs.
I recently played a 400 person Halloween Family Party with it. It's small enough that I can lift myself (please note I'm 6'4"tall and 300lbs, that's just the sub enclosure - NOT the entire system ;-p).
Basically with a good soundcard and good quality mp3's (encoded AT LEAST at 192kbps) this little sound system is perfect for mobile guys.
There's much better equipment available - but for dollar value I've been very impressed with the system I purchased. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

Hi Kev.
I really don't know how any speaker system would fair against another. As I mentioned - I bought what I thought would suit my needs.
I've been happy with my Purchase.
I'm glad you enjoyed the vid. I've gotten a lot more response to that vid than I ever expected.

I currently use one QSC HPR151 15" Powered Subwoofer with my JBL 15" Eon G2's and think it compliments them nicely and is perfect for small to medium venues. the QSC has built in high pass outs to go to the JBL's. The QSC is a bit heavy but I have no problem moving it around myself with a dolly/cart.

They come in powered and a passive version. The passive is usally driven off the other channel of the powered Mpro. I actually use 2 non powered Mpro subs for most events, they are light and small.

Personally, I use an Cerwin-Vega Earthquake. It handles a 1000 person high school dance in a gym without breaking a sweat.
