Topic: How to use Virtual DJ with a laptop and just a mixer?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hey guys, here a question. I am thinking of getting virtual DJ and use it in conjunction withmy mixer which is a pioneer 600. so heres my question --my laptop which is a dell m1710 has one output on the side--you know a headphone jack... .... how would I be able to use my mixer to mix the two tracks rather than use the virtual dj internal mixer.....would i have to get one of those headphone male to rca cables.....then have two seperate Y cables connect into the mixer which will give me two channels?

if your confused...i just want to be able to use my pioneer with 2 channels and use the faders and be able to use the headphones from my mixer.....and just use virtual dj to store and load tracks from...

any advice help?

GET A SECOND SOUND CARD MAYBE A USB SOUND CARD AND THEN RUN 2 CORDS I.E. MINI - RCA JACKS 1 FROM EACH SOUND CARD AND INTO TWO SEPARATE CHANNELS IN THE MIXER AND IN TEH SOUND CONFIG SELECT TEH OPTION THAT HAS 2 SOUND CARDS TO 1 MIXER AND THEN GET ON WITH IT

LET ME KNOW IF IT WORKS

you could, but you would need to split the stereo output from your laptop to two mono signals, since each virtual deck in VDJ needs a separate output if you want to be able to prelisten a track, and specially so if you want to mix on external mixer.

This would give you mono signals, but its pretty cheap to get a decent usb soundcard with two stereo outputs, that would make your setup all the better, giving two separate stereo outputs, one for each deck.

When connected to the DJM600 you would mix like you normally do

Yes, this will work, but you know these are now mono channels. As the others have said, you can get an external sound card, that will give you much better results.

right on I appreciate the info...i been looking at the forums...it seems as if alot of people use the maya usb sound card....how is that thing? i never heard of that brand in my life....

The maya card is good;) but it also have two stero INPUTS, so its very common card for those what use timecode vinyls or cd's on real turntables, to control VirtualDJ

If you have no such need, you dont need the two inputs, and can go for almost any usb soundcard that has two stereo outs (such as normal 4.1 / 5.1 surround soundcards from Soundblaster etc)

I use a numark dm950usb mixer. 2 usb cables out my laptop into the mixers channels 1&2 inputs, just like a nomal hookup. U just have to select the mixer as your sound card.

I had this problem until now because I went to the music store to buy a sound card (Creative E-MU 0404 USB). This in combination with my Numark CDMIX1 can send on Line1 of the Numark console. But I also plug the RECORDER output of the Numark's console to the front lines of this external sound card so I can also record what I am playing (or DJing). In fact, I am using Virtual DJ as a complement to the Fruity Loops Software to create FX while I am DJing. It is how I resolve my problems (I am using a Dell Inspiron 8600).

I also bought this sound card because I need to plug my piano/keyboard to it (MIDI) in order to add more special FX as a synthetizer.

I had to say that in my case, I had two specifics needs to resolve: 1) to compose with a higher quality than the generic sound card I had in my laptop and 2) to DJing and using what I created as FX and songs.
