Running "Scan for tags" or "scan for BPMs" or "add to search db" crashes VDJ. No error message - just exits.
Running ver 5.rev2 on Vista.
Doesn't matter what directory I run it on, it still crashes
Any ideas?

Do you have your User Access Control (UAC) disabled? It maybe having problems writing to the database files.

Alright - let's start with the setup specs? Computer, external hard drive, Operating System, etc.

Gateway tablet cx210. no external hard drive. Vista.
VDJ 4.0 worked fine. Ver 5 will play files, etc. I only have problems when I try to scan additional information into the database. From the ver5 documentation it looks like the database is split into two parts? My guess is it's having trouble writing to one of them?
I guess I'll try an uninstall and reinstall. Perhaps the database got screwed up trying to import my ver4 info (which wasn't there when I started ver5).

No, we can rebuild the files -- have you already done a re-install ?
Rebuild the v5 databases from your 4.3 database
1. Do a search for the 4.x database - VirtualDJ Database*.xml but make sure you are searching HIDDEN files as well. Now when your system finds it. Right click on the file and choose to Open the containing folder. We want to copy this file to your desktop because we will need it.
2. Copy the database file from your desktop to the My Documents->VirtualDJ folder
3. Delete the VirtualDJ Database v5.xml in the My Documents->VirtualDJ folder
4. Delete the any VirtualDJ Local Database v5.xml files from the root of the external drive(s) or other internal drive partition(s).
5. Launch VirtualDJ - now you may get 'corrupt' messages. But that's fine.
6. Go straight to Config->Browser tab - run the Check, Clean, Fix in that order on all the drives listed in the drop-down.
7. Close and re-open VirtualDJ
What are the results?

Still having this problem (crashing when scanning for tags or BPM)
I noticed that VDJ is not creating a file in the Root drive. I have UAC disabled and have tested creating files in the root and making changes to them -- no problems.
Anyone know why VDJ is not creating that file?

VDJ in V5 is making a database file in My Documents (in Vista Documents) folder, not in root like V4 before. You can try also renaming your old database like new one that V5 creates ("VirtualDJ Database v5.xml") and put it in My Documents folder.
If you still have problems, you might have some hardware issues like defective ram modules or faulty partition on your hard drive. If you can, try VDJ on XP to see what happens.

Was still having the problem in ver 5. Finally, I went and excluded VDJ from Vista's Data Execution Protection settings and that did the trick.
Finally!!!

I just got the hercules rmx, and I'm having the same problem. The VDJ 5 DJC freezes on me when I scan BPM of songs. I have enabled the program to go through my firewall and it still freezes. Where can I find Vista's Data Execution Protection settings?
