Topic: Can I use Hercules dj console with special vinyl as with Final Scratch??

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi!
Please help. I have decided to buy Hercules dj console instead of Final Scratch. Can I still purchase special vinyl and mix it on decks with the Hercules hardware/ Software?
Im not referring to normal vinyl, rather special vinyl that will play my mp3's.
Any advice more than welcome! :)

there is a stereo line-in in the hercules console...

So, my guess is that it should work with timecode vinyl/CD's...

The only issue is the lack of controll-panel for Hercules, or the limitations... not sure if that makes a problem.
There is also an asio issue, but that will be fixed, and seem to work ok allready (from the hercules site)

ANYONE??? would love the answer to this, as I have Hercules too, and would love to use if w/ timecode

It's not a solution, too may problems, if you use it for timecode input. But it is perfect as stand-alone.
If you really need timecode control get a Maya44(usb or pci)
In any case it is cheeper and way better solution if you
buy Virtualdj+Maya44+Hercules.
All these 3 cost less than Final scratch..
Now about Dj console:
There is no way to adjust the input volume of the console
line in. I burned a cd with the timecode to test it, and the
signal was too loud (clipping)
After that i made some "quiter" versions of the timecode
(like -6db, -12db etc, using a wave editor)
Burn a new cd and tried using a Pioneer cdj-100 directly
to hercules input. It worked but with some latency.
But only pitch-bent and pitch sliders. Cue/play/pause controls
are so bad when the cd player use the old-style cue
(no vinyl mode)
If i use dj console for playback and input i have some
strange "antifacts" in the sound like random pitch bend
With an Sblive as output was better but again ..latency.
I tried the Asio low latency mode but i get only "fatal" error
-smille ...

TCV and the console work together fine here, I use it for both in and output and I haven't noticed any problems like pitch bending.

humm... 2 different feedbacks ...

@jamesv1000..
I'm sure that choosing Hercules + VDJ, instead of Final Scratch is a VERY good choice, all the ones I have heard testing both systems, say that VDJ is a lot better, and for a better price... I still believe that you can use Hercules, and if there is any problems, getting another soundcard (w/asio) would solve any problems..

anyone else have any experiences with timecode (cd or vinyl) that they like to share? and even with Hercules??

Would LOVE to hear more, as I'm going for timecode cd use now, because of my gigs at a new club..

I own Hercules, Audigy usb and Extigy Usb soundcards...
Any tips or triks I need to know?

Is hercules ok or not?
what about the soundblaster cards?? (heard something about asio problems...?)

more feedback is warmly welcome ;)

I write just what i see and hear.
Athlon 1.8 pc, virtual dj +dj console : everything fine.
When i connect the cdj100 and send timecode to the dj console input (adjust gain, silence etc)
it works but i have some random glitces like pitch changes
about 2-3 times at every song.
Now, note that it is cd timecode not vinyl.
Somehow the cd is more problematic than vinyl
(i know this because the same happens with mixvibes dvs
- own both softwares...)
So maybe it is not the same with a vinyl turntable ...

There is no comparison with Taktor/FS
Virtual dj is much more flexible in any way and cheeper.
Go for it.

@update : tested with mixvibes vinyl ....
(-YES- it works but with the wrong speed and 0% signal...)

BUT : No "pitch bend" problems.

Virtual dj is a... modular system.. if you need better vinyl
control you can buy a better -asio- card later.
